Pink brick'd

I've bricked my V2 Pogoplug: I added a few lines early in /etc/init.d/rcS, failed to check them, and rebooted. No more Ethernet access (ssh, scp). Perhaps I'm not alone in this situation? I believe that my options all require that I establish a serial connection to the CON3 pins on the board. I also believe that this is a +3.3V interface, not RS232 levels - and I suspect that there's no buffering between the pins and the Marvell chip. So I don't want to experiment much, and risk permanent hardware damage. Do I need a level shift circuit between these RX and TX pins and my PC's serial port? If so, can someone point me to a sample circuit? Once I've got that, is it true that the port is running at 115 Kbps? I've got a backup (rcS~). Can I use the U-Boot interface to fix the existing rcS, or rename the backup? All suggestions are much welcome, thanks. -- Lee

I am getting multiple copies of the drive inside the Dockstar. Seems like if I click the pogoplug icon in the system tray I get a new Drive Letter showing up. Any idea on how to remove these copies? Delete doesn't work nor is there any eject or unmount of the drive letter (Windows XP). I can get rid of them by restarting windows but was looking for another method that is less invasive.

I have two drives connected to the plug and they're both formatted as Mac OS Journaled. I use the pogoplug application on my mac to mount the drives. If I drag a folder of stuff to the drive it will start to copy but then fail after some random amount of time. I can't even delete files from one of the drives... I get an error that says "The operation can't be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error code -8072)." My plans to use the pogoplug as a "storage in the cloud" solution haven't worked once in the month I've had this thing. What am I doing wrong? Is it the formatting of the drive? Drive type (do SATA work better than IDE? Is flash better than both?) What I really want to do is have each drive contain a .sparseimage file so that I can use my preferred backup utility, Super Duper!, to perform my backups. Most of the time I can't even *mount* the images that I have stored on the pogoplug drives.

Have been able to successfully share files and folders. After I have removed the user from sharing of the folder they still have access. The only way we were able to remove them was by having the user delete the folders themselves. Is there a way for the pogoplug administrator to remove access without contacting the user the folders are shared with?

One of my main purposes in purchasing a pogoplug is to allow friends/family to get to my photos and download whatever they want without me having to burn CDs and send them. As you know, there are many excellent photo sharing sites out there but the one I use only allows people to download/save them one at a time. This is too tedious and time consuming. I was hoping that pogoplug would be a simple solution for my problem. How can my friends/family download all files in a shared folder at once?

one query: i hv a desktop PC, a laptop and the pogoplug is plug into my 3G internet wireless router. All my 2 x 1TB external HDs are plugged into the pogoplug. 1. Both my PC and laptop are installed with the drive application, and both can 'see' the 2x 1TB HDs as network HDs. Question, so when i transfer a file from my PC or laptop to the 2 x 1TB HDs using Window explorer, is the file transferred thru Wifi (PC/laptop wifi direct) or route thru internet(ie. to the pogoplug.com server then back which will use up my d/l and upload bandwidth?

I have a Seagate Dockstar connected to a Seagate FreeAgent Go drive. The Dockstar itself is connected to a D-link router. This worked well for about a month. A week ago, I disconnected the drive to use it elsewhere. Initially it didn't seem like Dockstar had any issues with no drive being connected, but now all I see is blinking amber led on the unit. It also fails to recognize any drive- the drive spins for a while and then stops. I tried disconnected power and network cable to no avail. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I'm confused about exactly what a PogoPlug attached drive looks like to a Windows XP system. I am thinking of buying a PogoPlug, mostly for backups. I am very much committed to using Acronis True Image Home 2010 as my backup and recovery software. If I install a PogoPlug, will I be able to simply "point" True Image to any of the drives attached to the PogoPlug, just as if they were plugged into a USB port on my computer? Do I refer to them by drive letter? If not, how do I tell True Image - or any other Windows application for that matter - about them?

Hi, I need some serious help on getting Pogoplug to work, or to do anything other than take up space on the desktop. My office purchased two Pogoplugs because we thought it would be a good idea to help us work on our office projects from home. So we got the Pogoplugs three days ago and we cannot figure out how to get it to do anything. Here's what we did. Day 1 1) Plug into wall. 2) Plug into network. 3) Go online and activate. So far, no problems. 4) Add Seagate 350 GB USB drive. 5) Log into account. Library says, "No drive detected." 6) Spend a half hour unplugging the drive and replugging it in and clicking on random items on the Pogoplug menu. 7) Add Maxtor 100 GB Pocket USB Drive. Library says, "No drive detected." 8) Spend a half hour unplugging the drive and replugging it in and clicking on random items on the Pogoplug menu. 9) Click around a lot on various options. Help is useless because it assumes that the drive is working and only has help topics for people whose drives are detected. Day 2 1) Plug in Seagate 350 GB USB...

But i did this whole processes when the HDs are still mounting or indexing... 3. When mounting or indexing, will it takes alot of upload data bandwidth, ie it's uploading or downloading thru internet? i'm concern becos i'm running on wireless 3G internet with only 10GB data every month. Pls advise. tks.
