Pogoplug & PlugApps - no longer friends.

Just saw this on the PlugApps forum (link below). As someone who was looking closely at addressing some of Pogoplug's limitations by using PlugApps, I'm disappointed. I'm not taking sides but I will say I wish the boys would play nice. http://plugapps.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=51

Here's Why PlugApps Needs Improvement - Where We Are Now

I'll keep it as short and simple as possible: TonidoPlug and Sheevaplug support booting from USB - kernels and all. Both of those run 2.6.33 with Webcam, ext4, and lots of great new things..support. This is the "full" and "official" PlugApps install and is the whole experience and isn't limited by anything. Pogoplug doesn't have a bootloader that loads from USB because CloudEngines said so. They also embedded the device ID into the bootloader variables (instead of in a simple configuration file). So PlugApps right now first boots the old 2.6.22.18 kernel and just enough to trick the system to veer off the bootup path into PlugApps on a USB drive. This means that the kernel is still old and remnants of Pogoplug's firmware are all over the place. It also loads up my.pogoplug.com functionality (by the XCE module). The XCE module only works on 2.6.22.18. So we (IanJB and aholler for the very large majority) came up with installing a second bootloader and telling Pogoplug's proprietary bootloader to load the other one. The other bootloader loads a kernel and operating system from USB just like any other plug would. It's better, faster, and remnant and failure-free. Runs the newest...

OpenPogo on PlugApps USB install... On a Dockstar

I have just purchased a Dockstar and the first thing I did was to perform the PlugApps for Pogoplug Install to USB. Now I want to add Samba, media, and print servers ect. I tried the Samba but it appears that I need open pogo. Can someone point me to some directions to install the OpenPogo on my PlugApps USB install? Or get me pointed in the right direction :) This is my first forray into Linux for my own personal use, so all the concepts are basically new to me. I do have some co-workers that I can assist if I have some general directions though. Thanks, Dan

Factory reset?

Is there anyway to do a factory reset for the pink guy? I think i bricked mine attempting to install open pogo and/ or plug apps base. I no longer get an IP on it. I noticed there is a small button on the inside, but pressing it only seems to reset the device. I think if i could get in with a serial cable i would just need to cleanup the rcS file as that is all i modified. PS if it isn't obvious, I'm pretty new to linux. Any help is appreciated.

PlugApps (OpenPogo 2.0) Launched for Pogoplug and Dockstar!

Plugbox Linux is announcing the launch of its Pogoplug port, enabling thousands of packages to be installed on your Pogoplug (v1 "brick", v2 "Pink" and even the Seagate DockStar!). Here's how to get it: http://plugapps.com/index.php5?title=PlugApps_for_Pogoplug_Install_to_USB You will need: - Pogoplug device - 512MB (preferably larger) USB stick The instructions are on the wiki guide above. This WILL NOT alter the Pogoplug's existing firmware at all (except for adding an "if we find PlugApps, use it" statement to the boot commands). The entire Plugbox Linux install and all PlugApps you install are on the USB stick. So, if something doesn't work, just unplug your Pogoplug, take out the USB stick, and restart into the original Pogoplug firmware. You even get to keep OpenPogo when you boot without the USB stick! You just need to "mount /dev/mtdblock3 /opt" on Pogoplug's firmware to get back into OpenPogo.

Web Service Issue

Okay, I am new to PogoPlug and looking to develop apps. I think this is cool tech but am encountering a simple problem from word go. When attempting to connect to http://service.pogoplug.com/svc/api I receive the following: There was an error downloading ' http://service.pogoplug.com/svc/api'. /> The request failed with the error message: -- {'HB-EXCEPTION': {'ecode': 602, 'message': "Not implemented"}} --. Metadata contains a reference that cannot be resolved: ' http://service.pogoplug.com/svc/api'. /> The content type text/xml;charset=utf-8 of the response message does not match the content type of the binding (application/soap+xml; charset=utf-8). If using a custom encoder, be sure that the IsContentTypeSupported method is implemented properly. The first 569 bytes of the response were: '<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?><soapenv:Envelope xmlns:soapenv=" http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/ " xmlns:xsd=" http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema " xmlns:xsi=" http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance " xmlns:ce=" http://schema.cloudengines.com/schema/2008"><soapenv:Body><soapenv:Fault><faultcode>ce:Client</faultcode><faultstring>CEError</faultstring><faultactor></faultactor><detail><ce:CEError><ce:errorCode>602</ce:errorCode><ce:errorDescription>Not implemented</ce:errorDescription></ce:CEError></detail></soapenv:Fault></soapenv:Body></soapenv:Envelope>'. The remote server returned an error: (500) Internal Server Error. If the service is defined in the current solution, try building the solution and adding the service reference again. I am using .NET 2008 Pro for test purposes. What up? Thanks, Drew
