I have only been able to bring up my USB flash drive by using it in the 2.0 slot.  I have not had any luck using an SD card, or my 500 gig Seagate free agent drive.  Do you have to have the Pogoplug unplugged, and then put the drive in or what?  That has been the only way its found my flash drive.
