Hi mbeatty,
We haven't posted our actual review yet :) It is coming soon. I plan on including similar photos as are in the posts you mentioned; I have already included a few of the "official" photos which also show the removable top and SATA port.

I just looked at a video review on another site and was more impressed by the v4 from that reveiw that I was from what's been provided here. Here, they don't show that the top cover comes off and that the unit is actually a dock for a SATA hard drive and can accept the seagate mobile drives like the old seagate pogo enabled docks. That review if anyone is interested:

I had modded my Pro by adding an external SATA port to use a SATA drive, but I think going forward USB 3 will be preferred and not limited to a single drive like the SATA.
How do you pop the top off the V4? I can't seem to get it off and don't want to break anything.
Just pull straight up. Works like a champ, although, like you, I was reticent to do it...
Ditto on trying to get the top off. Simple instructions would have resolved the issue.
Getting the top off was easy. Getting my 1TB Seagate go to work was another issue!

Had to remove the drive from the case and modify the case a bit with the dremmel to get the wire to connect to the drive but it works great!

Curious what wouldn't work. It appears to me the interface is for direct docking of a bare 2.5" SATA drive wihtout an extarnal case. Did a bare 2.5" drive not fit or were you adapting a 3.5" drive to the SATA interface?
I uncased my Seagate 1TB 2.5" and got it to plug into the hole but it was very tight. The $12.00 cable I listed above allows you to use the larger capacity(thicker) drives without forcing them into the hole. You will have to remove the drive from the case and remove part of the bottom of the case so the cable will connect to the drive. After doing so you can re-case the drive so you can still use it portable with the usb connector it came with.
I recently re-formatted one of my USB 3.0 drives to Ext3 using Ubuntu. The 2TB USB 3.0 Drive is now performing faster than the 1TB NTFS formatted drive I have plugged into the SATA port on top. If you plan on using a drive for the PogoPlug only it is definantly worth the time to reformat to Ext3. I was amazed at the difference in the respose time of the drive.

Here's another site with still photos of the cover off showing the "dockstar" type hard drive port.
