I'm pretty sure something's wrong. I too am having this problem with my Pogoplug/Cloud backup...nothing that previously existed in the source folder is being backed up to their servers. I submitted a ticket to support@pogoplug.com and I'm waiting on a response...I would suggest that you also submit a ticket...hopefully they can get it worked out in the next update...

Hi all, I have searched for an answer, but no luck so I'm hoping that someone can help.
I'm using a Chromebook, with a Pogoplug and HDD as a cloud in my house. I want to back up a folder I have on there, (with family picures on it), all sub folders and the files in those folders to the Pogoplug cloud. I use the settings menu to define the backup from and to folders, but it doesn't then backup the existing content in the picures folder. It does however backup any new photos I add. Is this how it should work?? Do I have to manually copy the existing files across to my backup file?? Seems a bit lacking if that is the case.
Thanks.
Ah, JJ you put it so much more succinctly than me! But yes that's the exact issue. I have started to do it the manual way and will check that automatic updating is working for new additions to the backed up folder but now I know it's not just me and something I'm doing wrong I will submit a ticket too. Thanks.
It seems to work for me, however, I can only backup to the root of the cloud drive. If I specify a sub directory on the cloud, it states that the backup is up to date and does nothing.
I got this answer from Pogoplug Support.
You are right, the hardrives installed on your computer are no loger viewable on the web interface backup menu.
However, you can now choose this option from our Pogoplug Uploader software.
Please download the latest version of the software from the following link :
https://pogoplug.com/downloads
Once you have the Pogoplug software installed, you can enter the "sync" (backup) option and select your computer to be the source of the sync and choose your sync destination.
Hope this information helps.
And then I added:
Hi Eli,
I did it but I now have some other questions:
1 - It seems that I have to keep the pogoplug uploader running to have the
backups done. This is not very convenient. It was better before.
2 - How do I see if the backups are up-to-date?
3 - How can I suspend the backups for a while?
and got the following answer:
You are correct.
The software should be running in order to preform the sync.
However, Now you have control over the sync, you can close the software whenever you like to stop the sync and resume it once the software launches again.
To see the status of the sync you can press the button with the arrow pointing down on the top right corner of the software.
Thanks for the info Oldboy, but the one of the feature of the Chromebook is it has no HDD in it, and no capacity to install the software. Everything is delivered over the web, and the storage is in the cloud. The capacity of the pogoplug to store stuff on a cloud in my house but accessible through a browser was what made me choose it, and while it does largely what I bought it for, the web-interface and funtionality could definitely be improved.
The web backup is quite unreliable. Even from a plug devise to the web cloud, it cannot be trusted in it's current state.
Rsync is a much more reliable backup tool, and I would backup to your own local cloud. If CE goes under, you lose it all!
Just had a little invesigate of that Rsync tool. It looks a bit complex for me to set up on my Chromebook, if it's even possible.
"I would backup to your own local cloud. If CE goes under, you lose it all!"
Don't understand that? As long as the HDD that is attached to my Pogoplug is working how will I "loose it all". If it does fail, I want the important stuff backed up on the Pogo cloud storage, as I described in my OP.
