How do I get a direct links\URLs to file rather than a link to a download page?

I own a Pogoplug Pro and know to access it using the pogoplug web interface that is provided. I want to know how I can get a file's direct URL so I can access the file directly without being redirected to a pogoplug page for each file.

I am not using this for web development. Its personal use, and  many desktop\mobile applications I use will accept URLs to files, such as a perfered photo viewer or MP3 player. In other cases I just want to send a direct link to someone and not have them be re-drected to Pogoplug webpage to view, listen, or download a file.

Thanks :)

Just add the file name after the URL is provided. For example, if you want to share the file "sample.jpg" and the URL they assign is "http://ppl.ug/randomstring/", it would look like this, "http://ppl.ug/randomstring/sample.jpg"

Example: http://ppl.ug/BkhCOngRAFY/IMG_6067.JPG

Thanks for the reply. That works.

I was hoping it would be as simple as Dropbox. With Dropbox I can right click on the file on my HDD and I am able to copy the direct URL.

Pogoplug used to be able to do that, but they removed the feature with one of the Web UI changes a while back.

I'll give a thumbs up to Dropbox due to this feature. Also, Pogoplug does not work on Google TV. With Dropbox you can load apks that are not in the market. I back up my Photon to my Dropbox account then download the files to my Sony Google TV's.

Yeh, this omission really sux a lot. I've entered a Support ticket asking for this functionality to be re-instated, hopefully it will be soon.

By the way, if you use a Seagate Dockstar instead of a standard PP device, you can still go to dockstar.pogoplug.com, which uses the older UI and the direct link is available from there.

Here's the reply to my Support Request:

Hello,

Thank you for contacting Pogoplug Support.

Direct lick to photos can be done according to the following:

-Log into your account at the webUI

-Navigate to the designated photo

-Click the scroll down menu and choose 'Get Link'

The link generated from this procedure should allow direct access.
If you will to display the link without Pogoplug web appearance, simply add 'pv' to the link:

For example:

http://ppl.ug/DCSwWAd_PSE/ (with Pogoplug appearance)

http://ppl.ug/DCSwWAd_PSE/pv (without Pogoplug appearance)

I tried that above on my PHPBB3 forums (http://backspinforums.com) and it works perfectly, hopefully it will work for you too!

^^ Thanks for posting the info, it is good to know. That methoid works to get rid of the Pogoplug background, but it does not provide direct access to the file, the pogoplug server is controlling how the file is handled. I want 100% control over my files (direct URL access), and not have Pogoplug decide how my files will be handled, displayed, playback, etc. I want various apps to have access to my files, and being redirected to a pogoplug page for rendering is not working for me.

@nrnoble,
I see your point. I've just done this and it worked for me, see if this helps.

1. Go to your pictures folder from the Files tab (not the Photos tab, but may work the same...) then navigate to the folder the contains the image you want to use.

2. Click on the picture's thumbnail to display the larger image.

3. Right-click on the large image, then select Copy Image Location (that's how FireFox labels it, the exact verbiage may vary depending on the browser that you use.

You now have the link that you need to paste into your web page.

Here's an example from my device:

See if that works for you.

If not, see if you can get to your device via dockstar.pogoplug.com, that has the old interface that still provides the true link. As I recall, you can use this address for any PP device, not just the dockstar.

The follow-up question here is, how can I get VLC player to steam my movies. No links seem to work, and I don't want to transcode them all.

Such an odd limitation...
