I have noticed this as well but mine does eventually goto sleep. It's disturbing as, just like you mentioned, it's not processing any media files (per the my.pogoplug.com media settings page). Nothing Is pending au processing.
People who have access to the drive aren't doing anything.
So, what the heck is causing the drive to act as if data is being accessed?
It's the one thing about PogoPlug that is a bit disturbing, it's not at all clear what the pro device is doing at times. I once disconnected and powered everything off as it just couldn't be healthy having the drives spin for as long as they were spinning.
This has been an issue that I have mentioned before but never really got an answer.
Maybe I need to upgrade my PogoPlug Pro device? I'm not even sure if my device got updated recently...I think it did...my mobile apps did thats for sure.

For a long time, the drive attached to my Pogoplug (Dockstar) would go to sleep after a short period if inactivity--and would awaken if/when I needed to access it.
Since the big change over Thanksgiving, it now never sleeps...it always seems to be on and doing some sort of access (indexing?)
The drive has a lot of files on it (mp3s), but in the past, this wasn't an issue (I have the media settings all at disabled/never, and I have "0 items pending processing" for the drive).
Anyone have any suggestions? I don't really like having the drive up and running 24/7. The old sleep cycle suited me much better...
No one else is seeing this?
It's very annoying, and I expect will lead to premature drive failure. The drive is on/accessed 24/7 at this point, whereas before the updates, it was sleeping the vast majority of the time...

For grins, you might want to try doing what i did once when the drive seemed to never sleep. I properly shutdown the whole mess (PPPRO, my hard drives). Let it sit and chill for a bit, literally as my drives actually felt warm as they had been running for so long.
I reattached everything and waited as PPPro did the 3hr 'processing media' bit then they finally stopped running. The only issue now is that they seem to just run for long periods of time when I know no one is accessing them and there's no message indicsting that any media is being processed.
So while they might not be running as long as before they do still run for long periods and I'm not sure really as to why. The lengthy media processing part can test the patience of a saint.
Dont get me wrong, I still like my PPPro I just wonder at times what it's doing...

Hi Nat:
I took the PogoPlug offline (unplugged). I then removed it from my account. Then I plugged it in again, and added it again to my account, and hoped that might fix things...
But it hasn't...Still endless access. I have all the media settings off, so it shouldn't have to continually be doing that type of access. (I do have a few hundred gb of mp3s on there, but in the past that didn't matter)...
Not liking this one bit...I've been a big PogoPlug fan, but if they've changed something and now by drives are gonna burn out prematurely, I may have to rethink that...
I just hooked up a new pogoplug tonight and have two hard drives which keep churning...it's been a few hours now. Hard drives don't keep reading without a reason. This isn't normal.
A response from the manufacturer would be helpful -- and appreciated.
HI everyone,
If you haven't already, please contact Support so we can isolate a systemic problem, if any. Sign In to my.pogoplug.com and 'Submit a support ticket' using 'Help Center'.
Support can review some hardware diagnostics that may help isolate the Pogoplug process, if any, spinning your drives.
Kind Regards,
Christopher
I don't think Pogoplug has build in spindown capacity. This is not something one can blame CE, because everyone has different hard drives and enclosures. There is no universal spindown program that would work for all drives/enclosures. I have four different hard drives myself. One has build in sleep feature. Other two can each be spindown with different programs from Optware. For the fourth one, I haven't found any method could work. So you probably can not rely on CE to solve this issue for you. There are several options available in Optware. You need to test them to find out which one would work for your drive.
