I save absolutely everything on my pogoplug pro right now.  I have my home pc, laptop, phone, tablet and two work pc's.  I need access to just about everything from multiple locations.

If i upgraded to the pogoplug 4 i would also upgrade my router to an gigabit connection at home.  So doing that and moving up to usb 3 - how much faster would access times be?  Would that only speed up my home - hardwired connection?

Assuming that it can reach theoretical max (it can't, that's why its theoretical), it will be able to get upwards of 125MB/s.

Reality, however, is that until we get our hands on one to benchmark it, and some meaningful benchmarks in the first place, it will be an unknown.

However, since this is a Kirkwood-like Sheeva based system, the 800Mhz downclock may not be as offset as we thought, thanks to the PCIe interface handling USB3.0 (the only way to get it added to that board). If the PCIe drivers are implemented correctly, and we manage full speed out of them (I for one hope) then we could see at least local speed hitting 70MB/s plus. The USM docking port, also makes a large difference. In the end however, the biggest limiter of the PPv4 is going to be, as always, the 128MB of RAM CE has decided to use.

As for your home network? If you are transferring files around between devices, GbE is an complete factor of 10 better (125MB/s vs 12.5MB/s)

The Pro's limit factor was the same, and that the USB2.0 ports were all attached to the same hub, and the same root hub. (Pro's SoC has 2)

I plan on doing some in-home testing, comparing the standard Mobile with USB 2.0 to the v4 with USB 3.0, and hopefully a SATA drive also. Keep your eyes on the community, as we'll be posting our review as soon as we can!
