I don't want to use the Pogoplug Cloud service and I'm wondering how to disable it so that it doesn't appear on my iOS devices. It does things I don't like (such as requiring that location services be turned on) and it also seemed to cause some stability problems in the Pogoplug iOS app.

There should be an option to turn this service OFF (IMO).

Hi coldfinish

Just like any Pogoplug device, Sign In to my.pogoplug.com, click 'Settings' and 'unregister' your Pogoplug Cloud.

May we ask what you resistance is to enabled location services?

Unfortunately, there is no "Unregister Pogoplug Cloud" option under my account settings. It only lists an unregister for my Pogoplug Pro DEVICE. If I select that option I get the following warning:

"Unregister Pogoplug enabled device

Do you really want to unregister this Pogoplug enabled device Pogoplug Pro?

Note: If you unregister your Pogoplug, all your shares will be unshared. You will have to manually re-share all items."

That doesn't sound like the "Pogoplug Cloud" to me. So, either the unregister alert is wrong or needs updating or I have to unregister my Pogoplug DEVICE in order to disable the Pogoplug Cloud. However, based upon past behaviors if the Pogoplug DEVICE isn't registered it won't even work (because it will not be able to dynamically resolve the IP address for the device by using the Pogoplug service).

I guess you may be suggesting that I'll have to unregister my Pogoplug DEVICE to disable the cloud and then re-register the DEVICE in order to get everything else working again. If that is the case then you need to document that process (but that sounds like a poor workaround for what should be a supported option -- turn the cloud on or off).

Also, why is there no option to turn off the Pogoplug Cloud from within the Pogoplug iOS app? The app seems to have setting that are specific to the Pogoplug Cloud and thus shouldn't it also allow you to turn the cloud on or off?

Lastly, "May we ask what you resistance is to enabled location services?"

That's pretty simple, I don't want third parties to be able to keep a log of my location. Why does Pogoplug need to know that I'm currently in the general vicinity of such-and-such and NOT near to my home? I'd rather not share that information unless it was for a purpose that could directly benefit me (such as geotagging a photo or telling me where the nearest gas station is).

I feel the same way as ColdFinish. I don't want no Cloud!

"May we ask what you resistance is to enabled location services?"

(odd that you would question ColdFinish's request)

Your instructions for removal aren't valid. There is no "unregister" on my "settings" either.

Hi coldfinish,

I was mistaken, the ability to 'unregister' a Pogoplug Cloud has not yet been implemented in the Web UI. Support can take care of this for you. Sign In to my.pogoplug.com and 'Submit a support ticket' using 'Help Center'.

Thanks for answering the question regarding 'location services', I'll check in with Product and Engineering about this.

Again, sorry for the misdirection.

Christopher

Hi coldfinish,

Just checking in you got what you needed from Support.

Also, after checking in with Engineering, location services are enabled for any Camera app related app. In the case of the Pogoplug iOS app, location services are enabled for the upload feature to Pogoplug which automatically uploads pictures and videos to your Pogoplug Cloud, Pogoplug device or Pogoplug enabled computer.

If location services are disabled from the iOS Settings > Location Services menu uploads will silently fail from the iOS app.

I had actually consider the photo/video issue before your answer, I already knew that was a requirement for accessing photos/vidoes. However, why don't you simply offer an option to turn that feature off with an explanation that photos and videos won't be able to be uploaded/shared?

In any case, I had already disabled location services for the Pogoplug app.

Thanks for the update.

Hi coldfinish,

We'll take your suggestion to the Product team for future consideration.
