Prior to the recent updates pogo plug has released, I was one of the biggest fan of their technology.  It is a personal cloud that I have control over.  My files are not stored in some strange place; they are stored on my massive 4 TB external hard drive in my living room.  I have 2 personal computers at home, 2 work laptops my wife and myself have, and smart phones all having access to my pogo plug.  I essentially used  the pogo plug as a server at home and a cloud when I'm away.

The new updates to the software have stripped pogo plug of all its functionality.  Instead of having a "P" directory that any program can access now everything has to be done through the pogo plug software.  Worst of all the updates render the pogo plug completely unstable, as the new computer app as well as the smart phone apps (both for the iPhone & Blackberry) cannot access my drives at any time.

I just really miss my pogo plug and wonder why Pogo Plug has decided to strip their formerly great device of all meaningful functionality.  I'm so frustrated I'm about to take a sledge hammer to my Pogo Plug.  Can anyone please tell me where I can get copies of the old apps that actually work?

I totally agree.  I have a Pogoplug running for our church where many people are using this to access certain files.  When it works, it's been great.  But ever time Pogoplug makes a change I get called.  Pogoplug has made at least 5 changes this year where people have not been able to access files with their computer or mobile device.  Very Frustrating.

I couldn't agree more. The original PogoPlug software was great. The new software has stripped out all of the user control and presents user options in the least useful way possible. I have spent hours attempting to find a way to get the old functionality back ............ finally to get a link on this forum to "expansion." Why is an *original* useful application now called "expansion?" And why can you not find a link to it anywhere?

I would no longer recommend PogoPlug to anyone. Put it back ..... and put back the original backup application, too.

Oh wait - I see that the application that came with my original purchase - that I paid for, "Pogoplug Remote Access Software" - now costs $29. I had it on my old computer from when I bought my PogoPlug in the first place but now I have to buy it. This is bogus and if anyone who doesn't have a PogoPlug is reading this, find yourself another solution. Don't purchase PogoPlug and then find yourself having to spend $29 more just to access your drive on your own computer. (The web interface comes with it, but is worthless if you want to have a drive controllable by your file explorer.")

Not true.

With the free Pogoplug software you can access your drives similarly as you did before.

When I start my system, the command line for one of the programs is:

"C:\Program Files\Pogoplug\ppfs.exe" -l Q

Before the update on Nov. 18, 2011, I would see drive P: (Files shared with me) and drive Q:.

Q: was mapped so I could see all the files and folders on the Pogoplug drive with Windows Explorer and P: was empty.

Since the up date, P: is the same, but Q: is now a Pogoplug Cloud Drive. I can no longer see the files on the drive.

Fixed the problem. I had to reboot the Pogoplug unit. Now P: and Q: are as they were and the Pogoplug Cloud is drve R:. It's not a convenient thing to do because my Pogoplug unit and drive are hidden away on a shelf in the basement. I was suspicious when I went to the MyPogoPlug site is it had the message "No Drive Attached". It should be safe from tornadoes and burglars. BTW, I rebooted the Pogoplug unit and disk drive separately to determine which was at fault.

You dont have to spend $29 to access you pogoplug drives, or to turn you computer to pogoplug device... you ONLY have to pay $29 if you want to stream media files from that computer to other devices... and i find this fee more then equable for that service.

Hi all,

Owen is correct. We actually added functionality to Pogoplug Software so you can host files located on your computer's hard drive or attached drives using our Pogoplug service..

$29 pays for the licensing required to stream music and movies from your Pogoplug enabled computer.

Kind Regards,
Christopher

Right. I have been using Pogo plug for quite some time as well. I have build a massive network of few computers and laptops at home with my friends working on some projects. I love Pogo services so much.

I feel good!!!

@I_MISS_POGO hit the nail on the head. For the last couple of years, Pogo keeps going backwards instead of forwards. With each "upgrade", I'm constantly having to re-establish what should be a very simple process of access and backup. The backup service, in particular, keeps being made more and more opaque. With the new pogobrowser, it is practically invisible.

I purchased the pogoplug because it provides a simple private cloud. It allowed remote access to files from anywhere. And it backed up the folders I chose to a location I chose.

By making pogoplug more complex and opaque, it defeats the purpose of the device. I might as well set up a NAS.

Please pogo, don't get greedy. I know you need cash flow, but do it through services that go beyond simple access and backup. Streaming media, that's a good pay-for service. The whole fee-for-cloud service just makes you another Carbonite or Sugarsync without any of the benefits those vendors provide.
