@rrathbun,
What is the exact use case that is failing for you with these URLs?

Guys, this ain't gonna work. I need the ability to hotlink directly to the filename more easily than this.
I have automated systems that need to be able to link to say, http://ppl.ug/eSwNGr8Z4XM/WIR_1917.mp4 not http://ppl.ug/eSwNGr8Z4XM/ which is the link given to me.
This has worked for the past year up until this latest release.

Nick, when I go to a file to share it, and select "Get Link". All I get is a URL that would be a pretty pogoplug interface type thing. The automated systems I use at PBS need to be able to get a filename as well.
We had also been using the pogoplug to serve up podcast files. Just having a link to this pretty page thing does not work. Podcast software needs to see the full filename as well.
Our church, and several in our denomination, purchased Pogoplug enabled Seagate Dockstar and we have several years worth in our library served from the Dockstar. Thank you for supporting these devices in both the my.pogoplug.com and dockstar.pogoplug.com interfaces.
We had moved to using the my.pogoplug.com interface, but now have to revert to the dockstar.pogoplug.com interface for sharing, since there is no longer a sharing option in my.pogoplug.com to expose the filename.extension. Thankfully, the dockstar.pogoplug.com interface still works and does have an option to expose the filename.extension for sharing.
As with the post above, most software used to play the shared sermon podcasts requires that extension (in our case .mp3, .wma, or .m4a) be explicitly available in the shared URL.
Thank you for restoring this functionality to the my.dockstar.com interface and Cloud capabilities.
Best, Mark
Hello,
You seem to be someone familiar with automation and scripting; perhaps using our API. If you're doing all this through automation, you can still reach the files directly in our new webUI; albeit with some coding.
It is http://ppl.ug/[shareid]/[fileid]/dl/[whateverfilenameyouwant.ext]
Where fileid is the value you get from listFiles RPC when logged in as the owner of the file.
The only limit to the Pogoplug is your imagination... and C skills... and linux skills. ^_^ h\t\tp://download.pogoplug.com/opensource/pogoplug-gcc.tar.bz2
No, I don't code automation systems, nor do I have time to.
Looks like we are going to have to find another solution.
7tronics: Found an answer for us. Dropbox will do exactly what we need it to do. Select the file with a right click, then "Copy Public Link." It will give a full url such as: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8645963/MTP201.mp4
OP: I have the same problem. I'm trying to share mp4 as public to a friend and when they click on the link, it's just black screen. The old version works fine until this new update.
@rrathbun, you can achieve the same thing with Pogoplug by appending the name of the file at the end of the ppl.ug link. For instance, you get to the following share page by connecting to the following link:
http://ppl.ug/oKpJGs1VGBY
But you can get a direct link to the file using:
http://ppl.ug/oKpJGs1VGBY/MikeontheZipline.mov
@Nicky Pogo
Are there plans to put this functionality back in place (as it previously was rather than having to append urls)?
@JJ, I have submitted this request to our Product Development team and they are looking into it.
Thank you. Though it is possible to code to what I understand above, our church has a part-time office administrator who works with the soundroom team so that:
- After services, flip a switch on the digital recorder and it is now a USB attached device to the Dockstar
- updated service audio files are backed up automatically to the local Dockstar, and now to the Cloud Backup as well. After a few minutes, the digital audio recorders are turned off.
- sometime within the next 24 hours the office administrator goes to the Dockstar.pogoplug.com GUI, shares the recent sermon audio file now residing
- copy the shared link, which includes "service-YYMMDD.mp3" or ...wma at the end of the link into a Google Docs spreadsheet with cut-and-paste information from other sources about the sermon
- verify the Google Docs spreadsheet updates correctly into the Sermon Audio web page (automatic, just a check)
Voila, sermon podcast available with no "programming".
It is a bit of a step backward not to have an option in the new my.pogoplug.com GUI pick up the filename.ext of the file already there when sharing. Thank you for putting in the request for restoring this feature.
Best, Mark
Any update on this issue??? Was this issue fixed?
***Update***
Did not see that this is a recent issue. I hope this get's resolved soon...

Nicky,
I have a folder with jpg files in it. I "Get a link" and it tells me this
http://ppl.ug/ciqVc6F90jY/
Fine so far, but if I go that link, the browser first shows that it's photos (which it is) but when I enter the url, hit all I see are filenames, no extensions (which are jpg). So no photos appear, but a placeholder does appear. This is a bit screwy.
When I then modify the link as you suggest with one of the photo names
http://ppl.ug/ciqVc6F90jY/Dsc01511.jpg
It doesn't show that either, unless this is for use inside the img= part of the html.
Folllow-up Note: I put the link above in a webpage like this:
<img alt="" src="http://ppl.ug/ciqVc6F90jY/Dsc01511.jpg" style="width: 102px; height: 68px;">
All it shows is a blue folder, but not the image inside the folder.
I WAS using my own pogoplug drive to host images for my e-bay auctions, it worked fine, but I had to give a public share to each separate image. PS: Those old links still work, but I can't create them as new public links to an individual jpg file.
If I put in a link in my html: http://ppl.ug/ciqVc6F90jY/ it goes to pogoplug and indicates that there are things in the directory, but they are not displayed as jpg, and the extension "jpg" is missing.
I like the way this is apparently supposed to work -- once I Public Link a folder, anything inside that folder can be referenced by simply adding it e.g. "/myphoto.jpg" to the end of the public share, but that doesn't seem to work.
Another problem, while you're reading this -- I have at least 10 people I share files with, 8 are editors in some areas, 6 are only users, and some are both editors and users depending on the directory being "shared" (which was a fine name for it, collaborate -- not so much).
If I go to my sharing, all I see are 4 e-mails when I list by e-mail, and there's no logic to that either, it's a collection of some user-only, or editor only, or both, but 8 of my friends and their e-mails are completely gone, yet they show up when I click on directories I know are shared, and their names appear, but not on the listing of shared directories.
So help me understand why photos in the shared link don't show up, no extensions show (which might explain it) yet the files are in the directory with extensions, and appear as photos, and I can create a slideshow myself going into that directory.
Thanks for your effort and check into the "sort by e-mail" problem when listing shred directories.
Jeff
