for some strange reason my pogoplug actually works, it has never worked like this befor, and i am so very happy, ever since i got my pink and white second generation, it has never worked the way it was ment to,i recently updated the pogoplug softwear and realized they made some changes to the interface and it looks great, but thats not is, i have the mobile app on my android phone so i can watch movies when am away, this has never function the way it was suposed to, the rencoding just jilled it for me and the thing just never worked for movies, well i recently downloaded a file player called MX video player that has a built in encoding abillity and it works great, it even plays the HD files on your hard drive smoothly, so to every one who has had this problem in the past like me, get the mx video player from the android market and have fun with your pogoplug finally.

PS. To the pogoplug developers, my pogopug actually woks now, i have had this thing for 2 years and it never worked, but now with the MX video player its working finally, you guys might want to take a look into this.

Finally, A Happy Pogoplug Customer. I didn't think such a thing existed. ;-)

Lol I didn't think I would ever be happy with it, but finally I am, the third party players are the key to your satisfaction something pogoplug don't tell you at all, there encoding system is a waist of time, did you ever get yours to work ?

Yeah, It's working OK again thanks (for now), but am waiting for all the transcoding to finish. Probably be finished by christmas if I'm lucky. lol.
They said my .ceid file had somehow corrupted but they didn't know why. They reset something on their end and it started working again.

Am happy for you, but you sound like me a year ago, listen you dont have to do that transcoding crap anymore, my 500GB hard dive took more than six weeks to transcode and when it was done, most of the files did not play, so this is what i did,i discovered a post somewhere on the web that the third party players can transcode on the fly and they play almost any file format, so i downloaded an avi file player on my android phone and a player for both my pc and mac, and walah, it worked flawlessly,it played all the files in their very state, even the HD files, so you might want to forget about that transcoding, its a waist of time, let me know if this method works out for you, good luck.

I use the Moboplayer on Android which is pretty good. I've even converted some avi files to mp4 first to save transcoding. The problem I've had in the past is, if I stop the transcoding and just play videos in the format they were recorded in, they play/stream ok, but they don't stream when I'm sharing unless the pogoplug has transcoded them. It's all a bit strange.

Thanks for the tip on MX player. It works well streaming avi to my android phone without transcoding. Any idea for a player that can do the same for rmvb files?

another thing I do-when you transcode them down to size, make sure you cut the resolution down to something your remote device can handle.  since my phone's screen is so small, i find little benefit to watching anything beyond standard def anyway.

while the players can usually scale down the video to fit your screen automatically, it doesn;t seem to always work and your device cpu has to work harder which can result in choppy video, poor performance, ect...I tried watching stuff that should have played in MP4 format but only worked after cutting them down.

yeah, it;s another extra step that was supposed to be covered by the pogoplug transcoding but I think we all agree that it doesn;t really work well.

Thanks for the update,
Once my transcoding is all finished I'll give it all a go and see what's playing properly and what needs work.

If you use the Microsoft OS (xp, 7) you can look for software called Copy123 at maybe Office Max in the USA.

I have had real good luck making any format that I have tried into any other format (e.g., .avi, .mov, .wmv, .mp4) and dumb down the resolution (size, bit rate, etc.) to fit the target device. I usually make an .avi, .mp4, and .wmv for each movie and I make them all the size of my Memorex mp3/4 player (2.5"). "Why?"

My thought here is that I am somewhere and I am bored. I want to watch a movie. I could give a "diddley-squat" about the blotchies that sometime appear in certain backgrounds and maybe some fuzzies especially when the movie is resized automatically to fit the display device.

If I want perfection, then I will watch the movie on the proper equipment and in the correct setting which is not in some hotel room in the middle of "BFE" staring at a cellphone screen or a tablet screen or even a laptop screen.

In the case of the Memorex player, it ain't quality I am watching. The benefit of targeting this device is that I only have to remember one set of numbers and the small size means I can put more movies on the external 8gb micro-SDHC card which means ... you probably get the picture (quantity versus quality) and my music also fits and the stuff works real well with the Pogoplug so I can delete and refill or just watch and listen.

Another thing, on the Android tablet I have (Toshiba THRiVE), the app gives me a choice to watch the movie in the "Original Format." I do not worry about transcoding. On the laptop, I just go to the movie file on the Pogoplug HD, any of them, and just double click and start watching the movie.

If it is really a bad network day, I just download the movie(s) of choice and go to work or go to eat and I have something to watch when I return.

Of course, you can tell by my comments, I do not need "video realistic" to enjoy a movie. I can also tolerate some hesitation that happens.

Try Copy123 and I think you will be pleased with the results.

Pogoplug Farming(tm) is Fun!

Do not upgrade to MX Video Player 1.5a. It will not work for streaming avi without transcoding.

Solved the video encoding problem long ago with Handbrake.
