After some months of therapy after bricking my PP, I am now strong enough to try to tackle stuff I'm not competent to really do.  I have read many posts, bought a clone CA-42, found a CD audio lead for the PP serial (CON3) socket and drawn some diagrams of how the bits will, hopefully, fit together.  Some queries remain that I hope someone can help me with:

The CA-42's wires are differently coloured to the ones in the helpful posts I read.  They are green, white and yellow.  Is it safe to assume that the green and white are, as the http:www.http://pinouts.ru/Slots/USB_pinout.shtml page says D+ and D- and these translate to TDX and RDX?

The CD lead (at the PP serial end) has three wires: 1 empty, 2 L-channel, 3 gnd and 4 R channel and I only need 1,2 & 3.  Can I temporarily connect pin-space 1, which has no crimp in it, via a length of single core cable to the GND (the yellow?) wire of the CA-42?  A strand from a scrap of CAT-5 was in my mind.  I'll have to find a way to hold it securely in there for the duration of the unbricking.

What a fuss.  Someone with soldering skills and time on their hands could make some bucks by making up leads and flogging them to all us clumsy oafs who brick these things.

Let's simplify this.

Solved the lead connecting problem. That para. looks like it was written at 1am. Sorry. I think it was.

Using a DMM with my clone CA-42 connected and plugged into my Plug I read 3.38V across the TXD (D+) and GND pins amd .5 across RXD and GND. Is this within range and as expected?

ssh to the (router indicated) Plug ip address gets me "connection refused" so something is wrong...

Thanks for the link but I have studied it quite closely before now. That and other otherwise helpful pics in the forum have invisible or differently coloured CA-42 cables.

Since you're here ;-) can you say what 'connection refused' might indicate?

If the link in that post to here. http://buffalo.nas-central.org/index.php/Use_a_Nokia_Serial_Cable_on_an_ARM9_... doesn't help with the identification of the cables then I don't know what you next step would be.

Connection refused... Do you have SSH turned of on at my.pogoplug.com? Sure of the Pogoplug's IP address?

"Connection refused... Do you have SSH turned of on at my.pogoplug.com? Sure of the Pogoplug's IP address?"

Address is as per router and it has not lapsed.

my.pogoplug  seems not to have the 'turn on ssh' option when I log in:

This seems to be the most likely option that is available.  If not, where should I look?  Might it be missing because the machine is not visible on the web site?  I tried re-registering it and was told it was still registered.  Of course CE can't see the device since it's bricked.

Sorry. missed the bricked point.

You will have to fix it first, using your serial cable and repairing whatever you did to brick it.

I personally use a USB-to-Serial Cable from FTDI to connect not only to my Pogoplug but to my router and my Monsoon Vulkano.

Best $20.00 I ever spent. Using their driver and cable has saved me from a lot of headaches. Not to mention the other back end info it has allowed me to view.
