I bought a used PogoPlug e02 on eBay yesterday.  My primary use is network attached storage for my home network, and I have less use for internet facing access.  In reading the forum I came across the my.pogoplug.com outage thread which rendered the device unusable on a home network too.  So installing samba, a web server, and possibly a bit torrent client might be more useful to me than the stock features.  Since that will void the warrenty I figured I would save money in case I brick the device.  Plus the 02 has more RAM than the newer model, so it seems more useful for my purposes.  While the device is in mail, I figured I would gather information.

* In the event I use the PogoPlug for its intended purpose, will I be able to register a used device?  It's used and the original owner registered it, so I don't know if this can only be done once, or if the right to use the device can be transferred.  Basically what are the licensing issues?

I answered this one by Googling used pogoplug and found this URL:

http://www.pogoplugged.com/article/15283/How-To-Activate-Your-Pogoplug-Frequently-Asked-Questions/

So I asked the current owner to unregister the device.

* I've searched the forum and I couldn't find any help to reflash the firmware to factory stock or other firmware.  It might be good to start with a clean slate since this is a used device.  Is there a way to reload the firmware and where is the firmware image?  I know that this device is derieved from the Kirkwood 1.2 GHz platform, would those instructions work?

* Most of the pages which describe what I want to do are broken links to OpenPogo and Plugapps.  I gather those projects are abandoned, but are people still adding these features to the PogoPlug?  I would particularly be interested in adding the services I mentioned above to avoid the SPOF I read about.

Thanks,

Martin
