well atleast it;s working well at your home site.
go to speedtest.org and do a speedtest from a PC on your home network.
do the same from work or whereever you are trying to access your data from and tell us the results. your speed will never exceed the smaller of the numbers-your home upload speed and your current location's download speed.
my observations on the matter-the pogoplug isn;t a very fast file server so downloading large files is not it;s strength. streaming movies and music are what it is designed for and believe it or not, 200k is probably adequate if you manage to maintain a stable connection. as for pure downloading of files, your mileage may vary.
i stream from a slingbox and a hava platinum even on a 3g connection and it consumes in the range of 9k to 63k per second but the picture is viewable. of course when the connection is unstable, i get a blockier picture.

Hi all.
I have a new popplug (black) device attached to the ethernet port of my router. I also have 2 TB hard drive with media content. I am able to stream movies and movies within my LAN on all windows, Mac and Android devices. I can absolutely NOT stream anything from outside my home or from my school, work or any public WiFi networks. the most frustrating part is that if i try to download something from my pogoplug connected hard drive from my work network, i get 200kb/s download speed.
I 1st thought that i have slow upload speeds on my home ISP connection. I called AT&T and swithed my services to a faster fiber optic Uverse connection which gives me 12mb/sec download and presumably 3mb/sec upload speeds with no improvement in my pogo drive downloads. What is it that i am doing wrong ? OR is this device not capable of giving me super fast capabilty to download content from my pogoplug connected drive from the outside network.
Any help would be appreciated. Even of someone tells me that its not possible, that will help me because at least i'll stop trying to do the impossible. However, pogoplug product description claims that i should be able to download without problems.
thanx for the prompt reply madman999. my home and work download speeds are 12 mbits/sec and the upload is about 1.5 mbits/sec. but the good news is that for the 1st time i was able to stream media directly from my pogo drive from my work internet connection with minimal trouble. i did have trouble with lost sounds on large 2.5 gig and up movie files but that can be fixed by compressing the files in the future. i am much happier now. i did'nt care too much about downloading contents as long as i am able to use the content from anywhere. i can now comfortably say that i got my money's worth for the small investment i made on the pogoplug device.
that;s great!
use handbrake to compress your videos. less is more-things will behave better overall if the resolution of your videos matches what you are trying to play it on if it;s a phone or tablet and the less data being transmitted overall will also help.
