So, I have had problems with active copy for the whole year that I have been owner of a pogoplug device.  It seems as it is nerv working correctly even though it is a major selling feature of the device.  I will spare you the time and not list all of the problems I have faced.  But as of now, the "active" part of active copy is lacking greatly.  It seems that everytime I change or add files to my pogoplug nothing happens.  As I understand it is suppose to be "actively" on the look out for those changes so that it can back up the new or changed files.  In my experience the only time where an active copy is in use is upon startup of my machine or reactivation of the pogoplug software.  It also works if I do it manually, but what is the point of that when it is suppose to be "active."  It seems like cloud engines has cheaped out and given up on this feature and decided that they could not get it to work how they orginally planned and they just have a pre-set schedule of when it "actively" backs up data.

I am interested in anyones thought, ideas, or reactions to this ever so lacking feature of the pogoplug.

I don't use that feature, so I can't speak to the usefulness or how well it functions. I'd be curious about what triggers the active copy. Does restarting the Pogoplug cause it to copy? If so, it could be part of the hbplug startup, so you COULD try to restart it periodically via the shell. And I suppose you could schedule a restart via cron.

Like you, I've had a Pogoplug for well over a year and ActiveCopy has NEVER worked as advertised for me. It is incapable of recognizing when files on Drive A have changed and need to be copied to Drive B.

I have contacted Pogoplug tech support numerous times, and they have been unable to solve the problem, I also snail mailed Pogoplug's head tech guy and explained in great detail the problems with ActiveCopy. No response.

My take on it is that it is false advertising. It "only" cost me $99, so it's not like I spent bunches of money for my Pogoplug. But ... I feel like Pogoplug is a rip off and I'm waiting to see them go Chapter 11 once the market realizes that there is no there there.

I think Cloud Engines is emblematic of everything that is wrong with high tech firms who have a good idea but then get greedy and fall far short of expectations.

Just one old guy's opinion . . .

Good to know. I set up 3 Active Copies, which have disappeared for some reason, but I won't rely on it now.
