Is Optware possible on POGO-P21?    Could someone point me to a current guide that works for this newest version of the pogoplug?

I'm not unfamiliar w/ Optware ... I've installed it on a half dozen different devices.  I'm just very hesitant to try it on my brand new Pogoplug V3 (POGO-P21).  Above all, I don't want to lose the basic (but central!) services of the pogoplug - namely cloud(-ish) storage and streaming.   I am concerned that tampering w/ the rootfs may break these, or void some sort of warranty/guarantee of service.

I want to be able to add in samba and/or netatalk (2.2.x) and maybe zeroconf as well.

(@ moderators: please move this thread to the correct subforum in case this isn't the best place for it...)

It is technically not published yet... but I just wrote an article about it named "Installing rsync and Optware on a USB flash drive attached to a Pogoplug".

EDIT: weird... the link SHOULD be this... http://www.pogoplugged.com/article/21557/Installing-rsync-and-Optware-on-a-US...

Or you can find it on my blog (see comment below).

Also, see this URL, http://www.nslu2-linux.org/wiki/Main/PlugComputers which was done by OddballHero.

Just be sure to check your Busybox version.

@ Lee Jones: your link to your writeup seems to point back to this exact same thread... any chance you could give us the link again?

thnx

Oops. Glad you found it.

OK... I followed Lee Jone's nice writeup... here's what I experienced, using a 4GB USB2.0 flashdrive ... ymmv...:

1.   I stopped the basic service w/

sync

sync

killall hbwd

and that unmounted the drive as well.

2.   I used /sbin/fdisk just as Lee mentioned... but also I explicitly chose the partition to be type 83 (Linux).

3.    my POGO-P21 does have mke2fs, but PATH is not set to see it...

/sbin/mke2fs -j -L OPTWARE /dev/sda1

worked for me

4.   "ipkg update" threw the error/complaint about --passive-ftp, so I had to download and manually install the new wget into /opt, and disable the old one  as /usr/bin/wget.old.

Otherwise, it is just as Lee mentions.  (Thanks, Lee!)

===============

I eventually installed Samba2 and now have it working exactly as I want it to.

A few bumps in the road...

1, libnsl needs to be installed (Optware incorrectly forgot to include it as a runtime dependency).

2.  For configuring it easily and painlessly... see http://www.nslu2-linux.org/wiki/Optware/Samba2

scoll down to the section on Plug Computers...

@Lee does your guide also work with the Pogopplug Pro and the newer Pink version Pogo-P04?

I don't honestly know. I believe the only requirement is that your busybox version is 1.7 or better.

@holsen
As they run the same software package, it should work for any of the PLX Oxnas powered Pogoplugs (Pro, P21, B01/B02/B03/B04
