The free software basically gives you the same features as their old software did. The original computer software didn't offer streaming.
They added the streaming feature to it for premium software users only.
The Pogoplug still does the same streaming to the 360 as it has for the last year or so.
So, If you want to stream from a hard drive connected to your Pogoplug you can do that. If you want to stream from a computer with the Pogoplug software you need the premium version.

Hi,
I bought my pogoplug over a year ago. I don't think there was even an option for regular or pro if I remember right. Here's my issue. I just got a new laptop and decided to load my movies on a new external HD. I thought I would stream them to my 360. After going to pogoplug.com I read something about premium software. Is there a way to know if my pogoplug came with the premium software or not. After downloading the freeware on my laptop. I compared it to my software on my desktop, and they are different. My software on my desktop is 2.5.5. It looks like my laptop is 3.1.0.
My thoughts were if my original software includes the premium, do I have need to buy it again for my laptop? Can I tell by my model number?
Thanks,
JSB
Thanks Brandon!
Here's the deal. My 360 can see my desktop, and laptop, but not the pogoplug or external drive. It can see the external drive when I plug it into the laptop, or desktop. So I'm at a loss. I right clicked on the drive and selected security and sharing and told it to share the drive. I also went through media player and share it through there as well. Am I missing something? Do I need to share the pogoplug or something? Thanks again for the help.
JSB
Did you turn sharing on for the Hard Drive plugged into your Pogoplug?
You need to make sure it is on at my.pgoplug.com > Settings > Media Settings
I have on the drive, but not at my.pogoplug.com. Thanks. I just tried to update my software on my older desktop running xp and it told me that testing hasn't been completed for xp and may make my current package unstable. Have you heard of that before? I selected cancel, and it's currently backing out I believe. I'll let you know what outcome I get after going to my.pogoplug.
So I enable the drive from my.pogoplug, and the 360 sees it now. I have my folders dividing Videos, and Movies on my drive yet the pogoplug lumps them together. Can I not separate them? I was hoping to also divide them by ratings and lock my kids out from movies I don't want them watching.
Secondly, the picture quality is worse than if I stream the drive through my laptop. Why is that?
Thanks for the great support so far. I appreciate it.

Oh and for some reason it only plays the movie for like 5 seconds, but the video clips run their entire time. Any reason why that is happening?
Okay I did a little reading and changed my optimized setting to NEVER, yet it still only plays 5 to 10 seconds. I already have the movie in a WMV which the XBOX can read. It reads it if I bypass the Pogoplug. I'm so confused.
The Pogoplug does show all your videos/movies on the hard drive to your Xbox. I don't know anyway around that.
Far as the playback issues on the Xbox I can't help cause I don't own one. Maybe someone else can chime in and if not you could always send an email to support@ pogoplug.com
