I have no issues with AVI's myself.
Remember, AVI is the container, DivX is the encoding.

I bought the Pogoplug Pro thinking it would stream AVI files that have been converted with DivX Pro, but alas this is not so. Everything I have for playing Media including Video Player, Blu-Ray Player, In-Car Entertainment System, X-Box 360 etc, plays DivX (AVI) files except this Pogoplug. The big question is why not? Have the makers of this kit not thought it out properly. The most common format to mankind and they don't even give you the option to use the format.
I did think at first the Pogoplug was a great piece of kit, but now it seems to be the biggest white elephant that I have bought.
All my media files are in Divx (AVI) and interchangable with all my media players.
And then the Transcoding, I have seen paint dry quicker, and after it states it's done, it still will not play. What a waste of time.
So all I can say is, if all your media files are in AVI format, the Pogoplug is not for you, or you will have to get a converter to change the format, and to be honest I don't think it is worth it and the same goes for the pogoplug.
just play original and forget about the built in transcoding. i can play AVIs assuming I have program capable of reading them and the resolution is agreeable to the device I am using.
took some trial and error before i figured out what worked for me. in my case, finding a videoplayer program that understood AVI for my Android phone and ensuring the resolutions were appropiate for the screen size.
I am going to buy a video converter and have a play around with that. Will try different formats to see which one works best. I do love to Pogoplug for sharing Photo's, it's just the Video side I am having problems with. Why is nothing ever easy lol. Do you have any good Video converters in mind that would do the trick. I am open to any suggestions, was looking at Xilisoft Video Converter Ultimate 6.
Kind Regards
Barry

Doesn't work.
Yeah, I guess I'm supposed to convert thousands of perfectly good divx/xvid movies and television show files?
Sending this POS back.
so if you copy these avi video files directly to your iPad or iPhone, do they play correctly?

not going to help with regards to AVI files but you can stream from the pogoplug to a computer running a supported HTML5 browser like Chrome, Safari or IE9. I;ve tried it with Chrome and it seems to work well. caveat-they need to be in h.264 format.
this limitation is a client issue. seems like Pogoplug formatted their website to use a player called JW Player 4.2.90 which seems to only support Flash & HTML5 Video Player for FLV, H.264, MP3 and YouTube Videos. Tried running it from Firefox 6.01 with Adobe Flash 10.3 and while the player loaded, the movie doesn;t stream but seems to download entirely and then plays. it;s also pretty choppy. so in this case, internet upload/download bandwidth is a limiting factor.
