I have the Pink Plug all setup and activated, and can see everything on the drive by logging into my.pogoplug.com from both inside and outside my LAN.

I want to just use Windows Explorer to copy things to and from withing my LAN, but I do not see any drives on the LAN in Explorer?

I tried intsalling the Pogoplug software, and then I can see both my pogoplug drive, and my computer drive from the WEB, but how can I see the Pogoplug drive from inside my LAN?

Thanks

if you installed the desktop software, you should have a pogoplug tray icon in the lower right corner of your task bar.

right click on it and there should be menu item called "show pogoplug drives" which should launch explorer.

the default is to map your drives to drive letter P:\ but you can change it to any drive letter and also map your individual drives as separate drive letters rather than folders under neath drive P:\

I have uninstalled and re-installed the desktop software, multiple times, and used the 'show pogoplug and reload' options over and over, and cannot get the drive to show up.

I got this thing primarily to use on my LAN and so far it is utterly useless!

is the pogoplug icon in the system tray pink or black? is it detecting that you are signed in?

what operating system are you running?

it;s working fine on 2 of my Windows XP machines, inside and outside the network. one machine is running version 2.5(just has the drives only) and the other is running version 3.1(but I have the sharing to the computer;s drives turned off). also, the tray icon has to be running for the drives to be active. it doesn;t load at startup.

The pogoplug icon is pink and shows me signed in.

Running Windows 7

I can see everything from my.pogoplug.com, both from my home network, and from my corporate network at the office. I have un-installed and re-install many times, used the 'reload drives' option, and still no P: drive ever shows up.

Kinda defeats my purpose of buying this thing! I put in a support ticket, and they want me to check router ports and all that, but I am not using a router or firewall, except the one built into the HughnesNet Satellite Modem, which I cannot access or change.

Guess my next thing, is to install Plugapps and lose the my.pogoplug.com access, but at least I can use it as a NAS on my network.

64 bit or 32 bit? inside your network, ports shouldn;t be an issue. your pogoplug seems to be working as you can see everything using the my.pogoplug.com web site. do you have the windows 7 internal firewall turned off?

do you have another machine you could try it on?

somewhere in this forum, you can download version 2.5 of the client(drives only). maybe give that a try. it;s doesn;t have the computer sharing layer(also extra virtual network adapter-which i disabled anyway). shouldn;t matter but for me, less is more.....

goodluck.....

Trying it on another computer only proves whether it works on THAT computer. Does nothing to fix the issue.

Just as a follow-up:

I never was able to get it to work on my network. So I installed archlinux and setup the pogo as a print and fileserver and it works great! Nice hardware, but the software sucked and support was not really helpful.

Additionally, I bought a WD MyBook Live and it worked fine on my network out of the box.

that;s great! I am looking to do the same. which pogoplug did you have(the black Pro or Pink regular)?

I guess this begs the question: Why not take an old computer that has more memory, horsepower and control and install archlinux and setup as a print & fileserver?

madman- The pink one: followed this: http://archlinuxarm.org/platforms/armv5/pogoplug-v2-pinkgray

No problems at all.

mpotratz- Couldnt return the PogoPlug, and it was of no use to me with the crappy stock software. Support was no help, that is why.

that;s a good idea but the pros of the pogoplug hardware is that it only consumes about 5 watts of power. so for a simple server left on 24 hours a day, it won;t hurt you in your monthly energy bill in the long run.

sure you can do more with a full server but even power efficient Atom Servers consume atleast 35-65 watts or more due to their powersupplies.

mfuller|madman999 : crappy stock software, no useful technical support, couldn't return even though they replaced it. Completely trashed a HD I had attached so bad I just threw it away. Couldn't format, delete, add, nothing. That's when I unplugged it and threw it in a box in the closet.

I already have a linux server sitting here purring away doing all this. My son bought the pogoplug for me cause he thought it would be neat.

The difference in my monthly electric bill between 5W and 65W is pennies. If I spend hours getting a pogoplug operational by completely redoing it to save pennies a month, the ROI on my time runs into the years. Not worth it economically.

The bottom bottom line is that if a company creates, promotes and sells a device which they claim does a certain thing, and it doesn't...... well, I guess that says it all there. All you have to do is read the posts in these forums to see all the problems people have, and the lack of solutions other than "delete everything on the device and completely reload something totally different on it if you want it to work properly."
