The automatic download program from CNet should install the correct version. Did you get it from CNet or something like Snapfiles that has the Pogopluginstall.exe file?
Also it does require a reboot after install. You probably did but just to be sure. :)
I get the error below...

I have uninstalled / reinstalled both Pogoplug and .NET 4.0 from the standalone version and rebooted inbetween every step, always results in the same problem. Running Windows 7 Ult. 64, SAME exact problem happens on another system I have as well running the same OS, is there a 64 bit version of Pogoplug I'm not seeing?

Yep, downloaded from pogoplug which redirected to cnet and did all the proper reboots

Try to download another program that uses .NET to verify
I had all these problems. What worked for me was to go into the Control Panel (Windows Vista Home Premium) / Programs and Features / Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Client Profile / Repair . . . After that I was able to install Pogoplug Software successfully.
