the pogoplug hardware is meant to be turned on all the time and sharing files whether you have a computer signed into it or not.
one scenerio-say if you took a picture on your cell phone, you;d want to be able to upload the file to your Pogoplug to share rather than posting on facebook.
I am brand new to Pogoplug, and I'm still trying to get my head around what it can do for me. I don't understand why you would ever need to upload a file or folder. I have shared my files with people already, and since my external hard drive is always plugged in to Pogoplug, they always have access to it.
I am guessing that you upload files so that people can get your files when you're *not* plugged in to Pogoplug? (eg. laptop) Am I correct? So that my family can access my uploaded files even when my drive is not available? There is something nagging me about this possibility, so if someone could please clarify, maybe by example, the situations where you would upload files. Please help!
Yes, my Pogoplug device is turned on all the time and I have my external hard drive hooked up there. I know I sound archaic here, but I don't have a cell phone and won't be using that functionality. Here's my scenario:
Say my mom, who lives in another city, wants to share a picture with me from her laptop computer. She is *not* connected to her own Pogoplug device - she just has the online application. She performs the "share" function in Pogoplug to share her file with me.
I know that when she turns off her laptop, I will not be able to view the file she shared with me. What I'm wondering is: if she "uploaded" her file, using the upload function, would that allow me to access that file even when her laptop is turned off?
yes, that is what it will do. the pogoplug is your always on server. i'd rather copy and share that rather than any local files on my har drive for security sake.
