I know the Pogoplug team has worked hard to ensure compatibility with various anti-virus/malware software programs, but there have been intermittent issues with certain ones. I'd report this via an official support ticket so their tech team can investigate.
I recently discovered an issue, which almost drove me mad.
My windows7-home-premium-64bit-machine is running Pogoplug-Premium. I installed the OS a few weeks ago, then installed the Pogoplug-desktop-software. I had problems with a special program, which wasn´t able to write the attached usb-drive on the Pogoplug.
The windows-explorer refused to write to the Pogoplug-drive as well.
I went through all the suggestions like ejecting the drive, checking it under Windows regarding disk-probs, resetting the Pogoplug and attaching the drive again. To no avail.
Until I had the idea to disable Kaspersky Internet Security 2012. And voila, writing to the PP-drive went like a charm! Interestingly disabling the firewall-functionality of the security-suite changed nothing and furthermore the Pogoplug-tools were signed as trustworthy within the Kaspersky-settings! Ironic.
So I uninstalled the Kaspersky-suite, turned the Win-Firewall on and switched to another virus-scanner (in this case MSE, but I suppose, that other anti-virus-progs will work too).
I thought, I should share this experience with you. :)
A german computer-magazine (the most serious and sophisticated one) once had an article about several security-suites (the ones with a combined firewall-antivirus-package) in comparison to pure anti-virus-solutions combined with the built-in-win-firewall. They stated, that in sum the suites potentially could have more issues than the latter combination. Anyway, if the Pogoplug-team could get over this, I would appreciate it of course. But I can live with my posted workaround comfortably as well. :)
I had problems with my software firewall, too. Since I installed PP software with the firewall disabled (only during installation) it works fine. I am using "Online Armor" by Emsisoft which is a powerful yet small firewall which does not slow down your computer at all. I was able to check the PP network adapter as trusted and since then everything works fine.
I am currently having the same problem. I had kaspersky internet security 2011 and upgraded to 2012 and all hell broke loose. It took me a while to figure out that kaspersky was the problem. I turn off kaspersky and everything work find. So a said it must be the firewall so I turn it off, that did not fix the problem, I am still trying to figure it out, if anyone find a answer please let me know.
I was able to get pogoplug and kaspersky 2012 to work by unchecking the box "Block hazardous script in Microsoft Explorer" under tab General in Setting in Web Anti-Virus.
Thank you for the hint. I unchecked this setting and unfortunately still wasn?t able to copy a file to the Pogoplug-drive with the Windows-Explorer.
The pogoplug-support-team was very responsive, but I gave up, until I performed the recommended procedures like uninstalling, disabling the antivirus, rebooting and re-installing and rebooting again. This lead to the same copy-failure with Kaspersky.
I don?t expect the support-team to be able to dig into the deepest algorithms of any antivirus-firewall-software, so I think for now, that Kaspersky and Pogoplug is a no-go at least for me.

This is what I did to fix the problem, go into web anti-virus setting and click on default level and change the security level to low and thats was it popgo copied my files with no problem. Hope that helps.
Sorry I was to early. My solution above is just working for a short time and at least on my machine seems also the "security level to low" just work for a short while. But unchecking web anti-virus does work, but that is not a acceptable solution for me.

Thanks for the further hints! :) I tried to follow the steps with changing the web-anti-virus-level to low. At first it didn´t function, but after a while with enabling and disabling the whole web-anti-virus (the yellow warning-widget switched back to green) I got the copying working.
Suspecting the worst I checked the Kaspersky-settings twice (web-anti-virus was low and the widget was green) and I rebooted. After being back again in Windows the copying didn´t work again with the same low web-anti-virus settings! This obviously is - as mentioned above - a fragile, non persistent solution.
I wonder about the whole Kaspersky behaviour. One time the low web-anti-virus worked not and one time - after playing around with the settings, switching the whole web-thingy on and off - it worked again. This is not reasonable on Kaspersky´s side and I suspect a kind of weirdness within this security-suite.
Anyway, my fun to try things out diminished and I tend to shove Kaspersky away. Cheerio. :)
I would like to keep kaspersky installed and use its firewall and still be able to use the pogoplug so if anyone has found a solution to this, please post.
I tried adding in ports etc into the network rules for the firewall to no avail.
