Pogoplug and the software are getting better all the time, but I'd still like to use it to backup files on my PC to a drive on my PogoPlug without eventually filling it up.  Currently the Backup feature of the PogoPlug software only writes files to the backup drive and doesn't change or delete any.  Thus you end up duplicating files when renaming a file on the PC hard drive and having it backup to the Pogoplug drive.  Can an option be added to the software to allow synchronization of folders or the entire drive, similar to other cloud backup services like Jungle Disk or Carbonite.  As files are changed on the PC, they should be changed on the Pogoplug drive.  Perhaps this could be done in a batch mode at particular time intervals.  Basically I'm asking for a true backup utility that works with a Pogoplug attached drive.  I'd like to do it with with the Pogoplug software.  That way I don't have to be on my local network to do the backups.  I should be able to do them from anywhere over the internet.  I know a 'backup' can be done now, but it just adds to the current backup... it doesn't ever make incremental changes to the Pogoplug drive.  Please inform me if I'm wrong about that.  Thanks.

I agree, there should be a option or mirror or duplicate. I currently have mirrored hard drives and when I delete files they remain on the backup drive. I run a robocopy mirror to remove old files on the backup drive but the software should have this option built in.

I've been waiting for "active copy" feature to be "active sync" for 2 years. I've given up on Pogoplug though. Too bad. Lack of this feature plus slow access (even on my LAN) has killed Pogoplug's value for me.

Mine was running really slow but seems to be better after the last update.

Have you considered installing rsync on your Pogo, and performing your own backups?

I understand your feeling on that. I've decided to modify the Linux features on mine to make it do what I want. It is making the Pogo more valuable to me.

@Lee Jones, thanks for Linux idea, but I'm using all Windows clients. Not familiar w/rsync, but not sure it would resolve my use case.

-- I have a home PC that I want to be my master PC w/files.
-- Use Active copy to backup my files to Pogoplug
-- Remotely access Pogo from my work PC to use my personal files from work PC

Issue is that if I modify a Pogo file from my work PC, that doesn't get updated to my home PC (master HDD). In fact, the home PC (using active sync), would over write any file changes I made while accessing my Pogo drive from my work PC.

Seems like a common use case to me, and I'm surprised more people don't have this same issue. Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't think Pogo can help in this requirement. Only workaround I know is making Pogo the master drive, but that is too slow for accessing all my files from home PC.

Yeah, I have the same issue. I want users to access files from everywhere, and the only solution I could come up with was to make the Pogo the master, as well. Like you, I rejected the idea.

And you're right, rsync would not solve the problem. The only upside is that rsync also propegates deletes, so your home HDD's deleted files would also disappear from the Pogo.

I was thinking of some kind of "inbox" for working remotely and modifying files... but I haven't come up with a good solution yet.

I'm thinking of using something like Unison, but, again, no solid leads in that area. If I come up with something, I'll update the thread. I would appreciate if you did the same.

i love the idea, and would love if you could schedule it as well. i might only want it to replicate every day at midnight or something.
