Today I updated the PogoPlug application on my Android phone to version 4.0.1.21 and it appears that the user interface has significantly changed, but little thought went into how it should work or what the users want.

First, if I am looking for music, and choose Artist for example and want an Artist whose name begins with S, I would have to scroll down repeatedly and wait for it to dynamically load.  Which over 1,000 artists in my collection, this becomes unusable.

Next, when I go to an album and find the song I'm looking for, I am only able to stream it and listen or do a long hold and share.  There is no way for me to download it to my phone for listening to it locally. It appears that the same thing goes for other things like images.  I can share and print images, but can't download them to my phone.

There are many other small annoyances as well.  For example, when I look at a MP3 with embedded album art in displays in the file list, but when I go to stream the file and begin listing, the album art is not displayed, just a generic pogoplug icon.

Please Cloud Engine, before you release products, do analysis on how it will be used, and send in through thorough testing. People lose confidence quickly in companies that release half-baked solutions; this is what gives companies like Apple a loyal base of customers.

Regards,

Kevin

Kevin,
It seems to me like another backwards step to make it look like an iphone. The previous version worked perfectly well for me. It just needed the option to download locally. Now like you,I've found the album art will not show when streaming. Come on CE sort it out ASAP please.

Have just tried playing videos and NONE of them work. It says to install a player capable of playing whatever format they are in. I knew they'd mess it up again. I don't know why i bothered updating the app. Also the old app wasn't uninstalled either, but I cant use it unfortunately.

July 22, 2011 4:29 PM

i noticed when prompted for updates that the version in the market was being reported as the old version. could this be a mistake?

July 22, 2011 4:43 PM

I somehow ended up with both versions installed. Unfortunately, when I clicked on the old version, it prompted me to get the new version, which I had already installed. I have since uninstalled the old one, but now I have the problems described above. I'm wondering now if I should yet another media player to install.

the media player and the pogo app are distinct and differenet. i don;t believe one depends on the othere.

if you want to try a different player, try moboplayer. it;s free and supports more formats than the built in one whicjh only supports h.264.

if you need the "old" newer apk, i am sure someone can provide it.

Strange how it will play videos from my pc that are not encoded through the pogoplug, but it is telling me that I need to install a player that will support the files. It worked fine in the old version.
Thanks for the advice on moboplayer madman999. I have it installed now and so far it is playing back a transcoded video ok.

One can only think this an early work in progress alpha version.  It has no worthwhile features that I can discern.  Perhaps it was a student project Cry

I am also really disappointed with the latest version of the app, sometimes I want to download a file to my phone! They need to update this app and put this option, please!

July 23, 2011 5:17 PM

I saw there was an update to the app and chose to update it. All it did was uninstall the previous (working) version and I had to install the new version. The new version is horrible. I can't download files to my phone, which is what I primarily used the app for anyway. Luckily I had the old version backed up on my rooted Nexus S4G so I uninstalled the new one and restored the old one. This app is getting killed in the market reviews because this update. Does CloudEngines care or even read the reviews?

I have version 3.2.1u09. What version is this new defective one?

July 23, 2011 5:24 PM

The new is 4.0.1.21

July 25, 2011 10:22 AM

that;s funny, in the Android market on my phone(Droid Incredible on Verizon Network), the new "old version" is listed as version 3.2.2

July 25, 2011 11:16 AM

the "stealth breakage" of the old app is a nice venture into the land of evil - if you have v.3 installed before saturday last, you will be prompted to "update" the app. DON'T! the "update" breaks the app and renders it dead. cloud engines is working overtime to force users to v.4 and the new revenue model (which puts the lie to the original contract of sale.) and v.4 is festooned with broken bits and problems, according to every set of reviews i have seen from every source!

RUN AWAY from v.4 just as cloud engines has run away from integrity in its business practices.

July 25, 2011 11:39 AM

Where can we find version 3.2.2?

July 25, 2011 12:30 PM

sounds like you don;t even want that one-on the market it says that 3.2.2 has been removed or discontinued.

I am still running on 3.2.1u09 which I have been since May.

July 27, 2011 10:06 AM

okay, tried to update to 3.2.2 and it did not work so uninstalled.

searched the market and found ver 4.0.1.2.1 and it seems to be working for me. can see my drives on my pogoplug pro. streamed a couple of avi files locally and it was fine.

acid test will be to stream stuff remotely on wifi and 3g to see if anything has improved.

I'm using it on a HTC Wildfire. As I browse my pictures it continually crashes. It is quite frankly quite awful as we say in our understated English way.

Sort it out, please. Pretty please.

4.0.26 is in the market now.

July 28, 2011 11:07 AM updated: July 28, 2011 12:43 PM

Nice to see the new 4.0.2.6 on the market now with the ability to download files via a long press. One thing to add to the wish list would be to download a folder. This would be particularly useful to me so i could download a whole album (mp3-wise).

Edit: Couldnt find where it had downloaded it to initially - i've now located this and it downloads files to the folder 'pogoplug-downloads' on the sdcard

July 28, 2011 12:28 PM

Still crashes more often than the old app.
And if I am inside my folders, the menu button does not work - no way to press exit or log out etc.

July 28, 2011 12:44 PM updated: July 28, 2011 12:45 PM

also need the ability to upload without having to go through the whole "send as email attachment" thing.
But it's getting there :) runs good on my LG

July 28, 2011 1:19 PM

to be able to upload/download a folder from my phone would be awesome. or atleast multiple files so I don;t have to do it manually.

July 28, 2011 1:24 PM

Some problems I am still having with version 4.0.2.6
1) Unable to stream WMA encoded music - Anyone else noticed this?
2) No Album Art or Track Info when playing back MP3's. - Worked fine on version before last.
3) Unable to move app to SD Card - Again version before last was moved to SD card without any problems. - Desperately needed as HTC Desire has very little memory as it is.

Strange thing is that WMA files will play fine if downloaded to phone first. They just won't stream.

July 28, 2011 1:43 PM

question-when you download the wma files, are you using the pogoplug app to play the music or your own built in player(external to the pogoplug app)?

also, did it ever work even with the old player? they may have omitted some functions.

July 28, 2011 2:39 PM

Another thing:
I used to be able to stream avi videos that had been optimized - with the new app it tells me, I don't have a program to play avi ...(?)

I like that, the current music titel is displayed in the status bar - it would really be helpfull if one could fast forward a certain audio file.
Especially with long audio book consisting of one file.
