Hi there,

I have two different PCs (Win7 / Vista) and on both I use v3.0.3. Every now and then it logs me out of my Pogoplug and I have to go into preferences, log in again, redo all the settings. All this every few weeks (I haven´t really kept track properly) on two computers. According to this thread it´s by design?

http://www.pogoplugged.com/forum/thread/15627/PogoPlug-Drive-forgetting-log-ins/?highlight=logout

Can anyone confirm that this is still the case and not some random bug or problem on my side?

Thanks,
Alex

@alexbu,

Pogoplug software does logout after approximately 2 week; this is by design for your security.

Thanks Chris,
But I don't quite see the logic behind it. Not only that it just logs me out every 2 weeks, I also have to go through the whole preferences/setup every time. Imagine your Outlook/Thunderbird etc. would log you out every 2 weeks and delete all your mail account settings. Not very user friendly, right? I can't think of any desktop software which doesn't allow permanent login. Even the Pogoplug iPhone app (or any other iPhone app) doesn't do that. So it seems Pogoplug is pretty much alone with this "design". For over a year now the benefits of my Pogoplug have pretty much outweight the minor annoyances here and there, and I just thought those random log outs were a problem on my end. But now knowing that the log out is by design, makes me seriously considering another option...

@alexbu

Thanks for this constructive criticism. We'll pass this onto the Product Team. Would a checkbox preference 'Keep me logged in' resolve this for you?

Can't promise anything but want to submit the request properly.

Thanks for the quick response!

Sure, a check box would be completely sufficient. As long as 'Keep me logged in' means 'until I log out manually' it's fine.

I also vote for this type of solution. I do not mind needing to give a password every few weeks but having to set up my preferences every time is a bit of a pain.

I kinda think they don't test for "user experience" on any of their software. This type of behavior should've been flagged as bad in beta testing.

Not to mention that every time I have to re-login and re-do all the settings it automatically sets remote sharing on and adds yet another tab with the same computer name in the pogoplug web view and keeps it there even after I set remote sharing to off.

@oumike

This sounds like a bug. Duplicates should not be populating my.pogoplug.com. If clearing the cache of temporary internet sites and restarting your browser, doesn't resolve this, please login to my.pogoplug.com and 'Submit a support ticket' using 'Help Center'.

Kind Regards,

@Chris: I can confirm this bug. But it happens to me, when you install a Pogoplug software update. Then it adds every computer again in the web view and on the iPhone as well.

@alexbu

This would be true when updating from 3.0.x to version 3.1 because the Premium Licenses migrated from machine/computer validation to my.pogoplug.com user account validation. This was necessary to support use of a single license on multiple computers using the same my.pogoplug.com user account.

I'm agree about the "keep me logged option"

One of the reason people likes dropbox is because they can go work out of the town, go on vacations, or do watever they want and the info is always going to be there....

I remember myself being in a rush to take an airplane and to be sure that to any place i go to print a ticket i will have the document available in the dropbox.

And I'm sorry guys, but with pogo plug i never feel relief myself the information is going to be there, I'm always afraid that if the electricity, the internet, or even your system failed for a minute, the pogo plug is not going to reconnect automatically, you can argue waterer explanation you want. but do you imagine having that in mind and pretending to be out of home with that.
Now imagine how worst is to know that every certain time the pogo plug disconnects.....
Please, fix this, theres a lot of improvements to do to the product, but for me the crucial one is to give the users the tranquility to know their files are always gonna be there available.

Any news on this issue? I just had to setup my Pogoplug again (like every two weeks or so) and was wondering when we can expect a fix?

Thanks

It pisses me off too.. i have the seagate freeagent version of pogoplug.. and everytime i want to access it on one of my computers and i have a few! which is not every day of course.. The damn thing is blacked out and I have to delete the computer and renable it then go find my license somewhere and reinsert it.. what a pain in the A..
I hate people that are so bend on security that they add Hurdles every step of the way..
If i want it unsafe and looged on all the time it should be my prerogative!
Update the software and make a switch.... Fix this for God Sake..
PLEASE!!!

I'm totally with you, John. Every other week or so, before I can watch am movie on my HTPC, I have to waste another few minutes of my life with finding my Pogoplug login details, pulling out the keyboard from under my TV, setting up the Pogoplug software again. Speaking of extra security: I'm so close to picking an easy to remember password for my Pogoplug so that I don't have to look it up every week. How ironic...

Please fix this, Pogoplug.

Thanks,
Alex
