The premium costs $29.00 + $5.99 for extened download service = $34.99. I don't why it even says the $5.99 because you HAVE to buy it. It isn't an option. A couple of the reason to upgrade are:

  • Stream videos to your mobile*
  • Stream music outside of your home* (free version streams within your home)

How is that any different than accessing my.pogoplug.com and playing music that is on the pogo drive? I can even access and play music on my iPhone without the streaming capabilities.

I'm not seeing the value in spending $34.99 for something that I can do now.

You don't have to buy the Extended service. If using the Pogplug site to purchase it you can delete the extended service deal by clicking on the trash can.

I don't use the mobile streaming so can't comment on it, but if you want the ability to Stream to Xbox® 360, Playstation® 3, most media players and Internet-enabled TVs you would need the Premium software.

In making a decision to buy, it all depends on how you have everything setup and plan to use it.

For example I have a Pogoplug unit. I can Active Copy all my media to it. Then I can turn  on its ability to stream to most media players and use the Pogoplug to do so. In doing this I don't need a computer to be on to stream media.

You could install the free software and until you see that you are lacking a particular feature then you can consider upgrading at that time.

Pogo premium is currently targeted for users that want to stream media
wherever you are

I use Pogoplug to synch data files and ebooks, not stream videos.

Can someone provide operational differences between Pogo Standard and
Pogo Premium so that other potential users like me can make better decisions.

For example,
1) Pogoplug Premium provides more bandwidth? more reliablity?
2) Pogoplug Premium steams to more devices?

here's a chart with the brief and general differences:
