First, the great bit about this change is that it is now possible to select the drive letter for the Pogoplug on the desktop! YEA!!!!!
Second, the strange stuff accompanying this update. [ppsetup.3.0.3.3exe, 38.6mb, received 20110605@2237central via upgrade.pogoplug.com]
1. During the install, the step showing XCETAP0.sys at 100% froze. After a fifteen minute wait for the install to do something an attempt to kill the process, to force a restart, and a few other things, the install continued.
2. Then about the same time as the restart, an alert box appeared with the message, " ... Delayed write failed m:\$Mft ... " that could not be dismissed.
3. After the unpack of vcredist.exe, vcredist.exe /q appeared and froze. Again after about twelve minutes, an attempt to kill the vcredist.exe process succeeded and the install went on its merry way as if nothing happened.
4. The install finishing screen appeared and took about ten minutes to go away. A little later, the icon appeared in the tray. Clicking the icon produced the signIn but that was as far I could get.
5. An error message appeared (unable to copy and did not write the message which basically indicated that a message should be sent to support@pogoplug.com if this happened again).
6. Could not relaunch - did nothing.
7. Rebooted. Was able to relaunch. Tray icon has new more pink than red color. There is now a DriveTAB that allows the selection of the Pogoplug drive letter.
8. Seems there is something quirky in the install of the update that only the "fearless" "SORTA" beta tester would forge ahead knowing the worst would be a complete system reinstall.
9. The install process removed the Classic view IE Explorer icon from the desktop. Now I have to go into the registry to fix this - could ya'll be a little more careful and not do these unintended side effects.
6. The SignIn (Open Pogoplug Preferences) could be dismissed.

Further learning about the install quirks. I should have "remembered" that the default Pogoplug mapped drive is 'P.' When the install started, C:-P:,R:,V: & Y: drives were mapped. None to the pogoplug.
'M' at the time was mapped to a SanDisk ImageMate All-in-one card reader with no card inserted. The ImageMate uses four (4) drive letters. 'M:' was one of the letters being used. This might explain the write issue since there were no cards inserted in the ImageMate.
I am not exactly sure why the install process attempted to write to 'M:' since I am not privy to that sort of information.
On reboot, I had removed the ImageMate so that was one last impedement to the update process. I subsequently changed the pogoplug's default letter to 'Z:' in the Open Pogoplug Preferences DriveTAB.
I am still surprised that even with the starts, stops, and attempts during the install, the install seemed to get done correctly and the Pogoplug 3.0.3 update seems to be working at least on this computer. I have several more to get updated.
