I look around in the forum but was not able to find a solution to my situation. Here is what's happening:

1- I installed my pogoplug video last week. I plugged 2 brand new identical HD. I did few test by uploading files from my Mac to one new HD.
2- I plugged a 3rd HD which had 270Go of files.
3- I wanted to transfert the 270Go to 1 of my new HD, so I when to my.pogoplug.com and selected the folder contanining all my 270Go. I then I clicked More Action and selected Copy files. I chose my new HD. The files started to be copied as I look in my.pogoplug.com under the new hard and I saw new files.
4- I shutdown my computer for the night, expecting that files would be copied by the morning.
5- The morning after I look at my.pogoplug.com to see if it was competed. Only 30Go were copied to the new HD. I thought it was because I shut down my computer that it stop copying the files.
6- I selected again the files and copied them to the new HD. Then I left my computer open. During the day, I look at my.pogoplug.com to see the progress. The new HD was showing massive amount of data, like 200Go. But when I was browsing the files, there was only the initial folder that were copied. I was not able to see any other file even tho the size was increasing and increasing. So I let it run for while. The light of my HD was flashing like when it's working.
7- Finally, when the HD reached the size of 700Go (and still working), I decided to eject the drive, and plug it directly to my Mac and look at the files. Same there. Only few folder were showing, but when I was looking at the drive size, it shows 700Go used space???
8- I decide to erase the HD to make it a fresh start.
9- Using my Mac, I copied all my 270Go from my old HD to my new one. I worked well. All files are showing.
10- So I plugged it back to the pogoplug and I can see the files via my.pogoplug.com or teh software on my Mac. Fine. But the problem is that the HD lights keeps flashing as if i't working even tho I'm doing nothing. I can hear the HD working. I looked again to see if teh size of teh drive is increase, but it is stable.
11- I plugged my second new HD to see if it is working all the time as well but no. It is plugg and light is stady on ready. But the one I have my files on keeps on spinning and spinning... I worried that could breaks the HD if it keeps on working.
12- I ejectd all drives, unplugged everything for few minutes, but I soon as I plugged the HD, i keeps on working... Again, as soon as I eject it, it stop working. My bet is that the pogoplug has a process that keeps on hitting the HD.

Now my questions are:

A) What happen when I copied my files from my old HD to my new one? Why was I not able to see the files and that the disk space used was way over the actual size of the files I copied???

B) Whay does my HD never stop working??? I'm doing absolutly nothing. Is there a way to see what is happening and kill the process that is probably causing this?

C) What is the normal way to copy 270Go from a HD to another one?

Thanks a million in advance

Alex

Hi Alex--couple of thoughts on what you encountered.

1. For that large of a transfer (270GB) I would definitely do the copy operation outside of My.Pogoplug. So you did the right thing there, simply because it's such a large amount of files to transfer.

2. The Pogoplug will index your drive for search and metadata, e.g., for music files. It will also potentially attempt to transcode any videos you have on the drive. So, if you have any of these types of files... especially 270 GB worth... it could keep the Pogoplug busy for a long while. The Pogoplug uses a power-efficient processor designed to work in the background. It was pretty quick to index my (smallish) 50-60GB library but on a bigger one it could take much longer.

3. You encountered some other stranger issues during your copy operation, which I'm not sure I can explain. You should report those to official Pogoplug support.

Thanks A lot Peter for your answer. I didn't about the indexing part. So I will let it run for a whil and see how it goes.

Hi Peter,

Is there a way to force Pogoplug to not index the drive at all ?

Rajat

In the media settings tab, you can disable the "generate media meta-data" and "generate thumbnails" options, which can help.

As an update, it took about 1 day to index my 270Go of data. The majority of that data was music and photos.

Welcome to the wonderful world of PPV. Now that you have got passed one issue (I've had about a dozen) you can turn it all off now. Pogoplug just posted that the PPV can catch on fire and are doing a worldwide recall. While a bummer it's kind of a god send as the PPV is such a half baked product in the first place.
