What I found is, it seems, by default that certain file types begin transcoding immediately and some file types cause the creation of thumbnails automatically. Transcoding really slows the Pogoplug even if it is desirable. My goal is to get the files onto the drives attached to the pogoplug and then think about what does and does not need to be transcoded.

Though it seems a little clumsy, what I did was to determine which file types caused a response (trans or tumbs). Then I wrote a .bat/.cmd script to change the file types (made copies of the files so the originals stayed pristine) to a benign type (e.g., mmm or abc) and then moved the renamed files to the appropriate ActiveCopy folder that has been activated. Of course, I have a script that undoes the fileType changes.

This works for me and some 300,000 plus files.

Now, in theory, if a "file" is NOT shared (singularly or within an unshared folder) and if a "folder" is NOT shared (singularly or within a unshared folder) it is not accessible. An exception might be other administrators that you have allowed which seem to have access to all files and folders on every pogoplug where there is a relationship linking the administrator's eMail address either directly or indirectly within and among the collection of pogoplugs affected.

Keep in mind, what you see as an administrator (owner) is different than that which is seen by the nonAdministrator to whom you have given access when they use their eMail address that you have assigned (shared) to files/folders you wish them to have access.

The last thought that should be considered: REQUIRE login-on to access the shared files and folders.

TEST: Create a dummy file or folder or both on the pogoplug. Create an account on hotmail, gmail, yahoo, etc. so you have a test eMail. Then share the file or folder or both using the test eMail. Then access the file via my.pogoplug.com and the "test" eMail address to make sure what can or cannot be accessed so you do not make a mistake. Then do the same bit with the pogoplug desktop software.

The way I think about it is that the drive name appears when you are the administrator. When you are not loggedIn as an administrator, only the SHARED files and/or folders are seen - not the drives.

Good luck ... What you want to do is possible and really easily done (Grin).
