Hi, this sounds like an unusual issue--I can't see why the drive wouldn't work properly. You might want to try re-formatting the drive completely, either NTFS or HFS+ depending on whether you're on Windows or Mac. You could also try rebooting the Pogoplug, restarting the drive, and reconnecting. If those basic steps don't work, then you should contact official Pogoplug support. I do think you'll be able to get it working though!

The FAQ has the following:
How do I know if Pogoplug will work with my drive?
Pogoplug is compatible with any external USB 2.0 hard drive or memory stick. The only thing you can't plug into your Pogoplug is a 3.5” floppy disk!
Why then when I attached a brand new Hitachi 3TB Ext USB 2.0 hard drive, do I get the error message "You have attached a hard drive that your Pogoplug enabled device does not support," and more important, is there anything I can do about it?
Because the drive is 3TB (or greater) and the older pogoplugs (Pink/Gray) have an older Kernel than the new ones (Black). The older ones can't access it. This is an old issue:

Shouldnt the company update the OS on my device then so it has the updated kernel? I forked over the investment for the pogo plug amd the new hard drive on the basis of its marketing that it works with any USB device, and now it won't work? Not right.
Is it the V2 - pink or gray one?
Addendum: Shouldn't you contact their tech support directly?
In any case, when the older models came out, the 3TB weren't out in the market yet. When the newer models came out - V3 - black, they did support them. If you bought a V2 model now from a 3rd party seller, then you're probably stuck unless you can return it. Cloudengines was only referring to newer Pogoplugs. You can always put a different Linux distribution like Plugapps who updates their kernel.
Pink is the older kernel. If you just bought it, try to return it ASAP. They basically sold you a discontinued plug (Kernel is 2.6.22.18). The Black ones have 2.6.31.6. Heck, my Debian box is 2.6.32.
Ok zamilden, here is Peter's official response:

Thanks OddballHero. So updates are coming for all devices. Does that mean don't try to return my pink unit? If I do return it, which one do I get? I purchased from Amazon.
Well, actually, I was just relaying a post. I am not the one that spoke to CloudEngines. Depending what you payed for at Amazon, you can get one that has newer firmware for $49.99 http://amzn.com/B0048KR1KU . It has less memory but a newer processor and maybe wifi (and if your good at taking things apart, sata interface). Basically, your choice on what to do.
