Good catch--I don't want to remove it entirely but I did put a large, obvious blurb at the beginning that explains the information is being kept for reference, but will not work on the current version of the software.
Thanks for pointing this out!
The Article titled, "How To Assign A Fixed Drive Letter to Pogoplug in Windows" should probably be removed since the functionality that it describes has unfortunately been removed in current product releases by CEi's Product team.
Death is Conquered While You Slumber- Seven is the Perfect Number
Spoiler :-)
In the new version of the software there will be a setting in the UI allowing you to control the drive letter pogoplug should use.
Hey that is fantastic news! Any hints as to when the new version will be available? Do you need early adopters to test this functionality?
Ooooh!! This is exactly what I need - at present, my Pogoplug's usefulness is massively diminished by the ever-changing drive letters.
I need to be able to assign permanent drive letters in order for SyncToy backups and Boxee media control.
I would also very much like to be in the beta tester group for this. With that functionality, my PP will be perfect.
Funk,
This feature is already been implemented and published in 3.1.0.
if you want to control the drive letter pogoplug uses you should use single drive mode (disable 'show separated drive') and then assign in the preferences the drive letter you wish to use.
o I have PP Series 4
o From Windows app (File | Pref | Pogoplug Drive): I have UNCHECKED "Show a separate drive" and have enabled the PogoPlug drive
o From Web interface | Media Settings: I have selected no previews or optimization (Disable, Never)
Enabling PogoPlug drive often fails to show the drive letter in Windows Explorer. Yet, I can still use ppfs.exe to set drive letter in a DOS Command window.
But this is helpful only within the Command mode window. Oten, I cannot find the drive in Windows as either a letter or even under Network.
ALSO (This is the REAL QUESTION!!):
Is there a feature in the Android ap that wil allow me to see PP drive folders -- or at least open music & movies with other apps? PP app cannot stream 90% of films and I do not wish to generate "optimized" versions of 5,000 movies. On my PC, I can both preview and stream anything if I can see it as drive letter. I simply use the standard Windows Explorer thumbnail feature and standard codecs.
