I plan to stream video from my Pogoplug Video sitting at home, to my PC at my place of work. This involves streaming personal video content to my work PC sitting behind the company firewall and using the company browser.

If I open www.mypogoplug.com using the company browser and start streaming video this way, am I using the company's computing resource,s to the point that the IT police will notice what I am doing and warn me not to use company computing resources for personal use? My understanding with the latest cloud technology is that the computing resources are provided by the source cloud (my home-based Pogoplug Video) and that by streaming video to my workplace, I am only using the company browser as a window and I am not costing the company dollars in terms of bandwith utilization.

I am IT-challenged and would appreciate an explanation as to whether or not I should even worry about my company finding out that I am streaming video to my workdesk through the company browser. Everyone here is allowed to stream unlimited video from YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, etc. so why can't I stream video from my own cloud, i.e. my beloved Pogoplug video?

Thanks,

Fil

If you have to ask, don't do it. Watching a video within a browser is still using your company's computing resources.

Its better if you buy an external HD and copy the films over to it and bring that each day to work. $50-$100 is a small price to pay to ensure you don't get fired. Its even better if you don't watch video and do some work they are paying you to do.

Anything that you do on the internet (web browsing, email, instant messaging, etc.) utilizes bandwidth, no matter the source. Streaming audio and video from you pogoplug is pretty much the same as streaming from youtube or other such sites. Your IT guys will know. I wonder if they'll really care.
