With the desktop software, this should be easily possible. You will install the desktop client on both machines, and set up Active Copy from one local machine to the Pogoplug. or vice versa. This would work whether you were on the same LAN or remote.
Hi
I want to buy a pogoplug but am not sure if it meets my needs. In most reviews / product description it is written that a remote backup can be done "from one pogoplug to another (remote)". However, is it possible to do a remote backup with a single pogoplug?
I want to install the pogoplug at my parents place and do an automated remote backup from my place.
Awesome! This posting, clarified exactly what I wanted to do with the Pogoplug. I started using dropbox and then ran out of space. I was almost considering buying space but a friend recommended I check it out.... It sounded familiar... I had a Pogoplug still in the box from Christmas... but hadn't wrapped my mind around how or what to use it for. Now I use it for books, documents and writings... I simply turned my full dropbox into a Pogoplug accessible drive!
Great stuff!!
I can't seem to get my set up to backup my desktop (actually an external hd attached directly to my desktop by usb) with Active Copy to a hd attached to my pogoplug. I've got the pogoplug software with a premium license on the desktop.
When I click the Manage Active Copy button in the Pogoplug Preference box, the mypogoplug.com opens. I click Sync then Set Up Sync on New Folder. The only drive that shows up as a potential Source is the drive attached to the pogoplug (this is the drive I want to be the destination drive). Out of curiosity I selected the pogo drive as the Source and clicked Next. Lo and behold, my desktop attached external hd shows up as a potential destination as does the pogo attached drive. This is quite aggravating as the main reason I wanted a pogo was to active copy my desktop attached hd to one attached to the pogo.
Every related forum post I've read, seems to act as though this should be a simple achievement. And I agree with those posts that it should be, but it isn't working out that way. As I see it, the external hd attached to my desktop should show up as a potential Active Copy Source.
What am I missing/messing up? Thanks in advance.
I doubt this is helpful info but:
I can access both the desktop and pogo drives remotely through mypogoplug.com and can do a one time copy of my desktop drive to my pogo drive through mypogoplug.com but can't set it up for Active Copy that way.
