I have the same problem with my PS3 - I see a series of empty folders in the media browser.
Here's the issue:
I have a lot of .MP3 files and video files in various formats. If I share them using DLNA by enabling "Stream photos, videos and music to your PS3™ and Xbox 360" for that drive.
I can see the pogoplug as a server on the Sony KDL-32EX403 TV through the Ethernet, and it passes the server tests on the TV. But all the folders are empty! MP3 and video. Same under the Pictures folder, I can see the local drive and folders but no content. Same with the All Videos, All Music and All Pictures folders. I see the structure, so Dated Folder for Pictures, Album names for Music- but no content! No files to play,
It isn't the encoding method either.
If I put files on a USB Key, and plug that into the TV, I can see both MP3 and the movies (.AVI and .DIVX) from the TV. I can also play / view all the files on the Key.
Then if I mount the same USB key on the PogoPlug and share it out using DLNA, the folders are then empty when viewed from the TV. So as far as I am concerned, either Sony or Cloud Enginges (or both) have 'crippled' the Pogo as a sharing device for a Sony TV. Which is the whole bloody point of owning them !!!
Even if I could 'transcode' the files to use them, or stream through an XBOX360 or PS3- why would I want to accept less quality than whatever source I encoded them in? Why should the Pogoplug not be able to act as a DLNA device and support the protocol properly?
BTW- For Sony owners reading this:
File formats that appear to be supported natively on my TV (there may be others) are:
MP3 *.mp3 , MP4 *.mp4 , AVI *.avi , AVCHD *.mts *.m2ts , MPEG1 *.mpg , DIVX *.divx
For DIVX, you have to register the TV online a DIVX.com and then transcode the files on a PC (or Mac?) running their own DIVX player, that's the only way Sony will let you use the codec. Even then it's locked down to that PC and TV for playback (I would assume).
So - I know Sony and Pogoplug announced a Pogoplug Video. Not sure if this peoduct can solve my problems, or even if there is an upgrade from the original pink version to the Video...
It seems kind of strange that the capability isn't available in existing firmware without hacking the box to install other software, or needing to accept lesser resolution because of an imposed transcode.
Even if there is a video issue, why shouldn't MP3 files or the display of jpeg pictures work over my own network?
