The desktop software allows you to share files from your local machine(s) through the Pogoplug service. The Premium software allows you to stream music, videos, etc. remotely to other clients from your local machines.
For a Pogoplug hardware owner, you might want to use the Premium software if:
- You have lots of videos on your local machine and don't want to copy them all to the Pogoplug
- If you have a media server in your home with a very large amount of media that you want to stream remotely
Just a few examples where it might make sense :)
So, I have had my pogoplug device for over a year. I love it. Do I need the premium software to do anything special? What is the benefit of paying $29.99 for me? I watched the video but it seems that I am already doing most of the stuff the video mentioned. Am I missing something?

Can you follow up a bit more and explain why a media server setup would benefit from the Premium software? What can that do that just accessing the PP device wouldn't do?
Ah, I think my wording was a bit confusing. What I meant by "media server" was a desktop machine functioning as a server. For example, my folks do this--they have a central media server (a PC) in the basement that serves up media to all other machines in the house. Pogoplug Premium would be perfect in that scenario.
If one has a dedicated piece of media server hardware, it's a bit less relevant as that product may have sharing built in. However, in my experience the Pogoplug solution is very elegant and a great way to go.
