I'm running PogoPlug for Mac 3.0.1.32 and TunnelBlick 3.1.7 build (2190-2413) OpenVPN 2.1.4.

I was unable to use my TunnelBlick VPN after installing and configuring the PogoPlug for Mac client.  It turns out that the PogoPlug software loads a kernel extension (and doesn't unload it even when you shut the software down).

I was getting an error from TunnelBlick:

tun: could not register PF_INET protocol family: 17

To resolve this, I had to Shut down the PogoPlug software, then unload the kernel extension:

sudo kextunload -b com.pogoplug.xcetun

I was then able to successfully connect to my VPN.

@drasch

Thank you for your input.

We have become aware of this symptom for a small group of users.

We are evaluating the option to fallback to a different connection but this hasn't been tested at all.

Kind Regards,
Christopher

I just want to check in to say this issue just started with me as well. Been using Tunnelblick for 4 years and pogo for a year or so, I think this much be a change in some update or something because i have never had this issue before.

I have to now manually unload the com.pogoplug.xcetun ktext.

I've sent a note off to Tunnelblick dev team as well.

Same thing here - it also wouldn't let me install tuntaposx. Simply quitting Pogoplug software doesn't work either. Only unloading the kernel extension manually works. I suggest at least load the kext dynamically when software's running instead of putting it as a startup item. That way at least quitting Pogoplug allows you to use tuntap/tunnelblick.

Also it seems to me that the Pogoplug mount access is still working with com.pogoplug.xcetun unloaded. However does this render the access insecure in anyway?

@cloudy,

Disabling xcetun does not change the security method for Pogoplug mount access. You still log into our service using your email and password with 256 bit encryption.

So I temporarily solved the problem by removing xcetun.kext from /Library/Extensions. That way both Pogoplug and Tunnelblick can be run at the same time. Though I'm not sure what functionality's missing from Pogoplug by doing this.

@cloudy

disable xcetun disables turning your computer into a Pogoplug so that you can access locally and remotely using the Pogoplug service at my.pogoplug.com or any of other end clients, including iPhone and such.

Hello, there. I'd like to vote +1 for a solution to this problem.

I have the same issue and it effects Tunnellblick, viscosity, HMA VPN software & Astrill VPN software. Basically any VPN your using..

Any ETA on when will this be resolved?

@jtimmyf the only VPN software that works without conflitcs from my experience is the built-in VPN driver from Mac OS X which supports PPTP and L2TP but not openvpn

Having got more than a little annoyed with this problem, I've now removed the pogoplug software (and the kext) and put archlinuxarm on the pogoplug. Installed openvpn on the plug and am now quite happily mounting the pogoplug with SSHfs (via macfuse). Actually turns out to be a lot more reliable for data transfers and still works from the other side of the world.

Hi all,

Sorry we missed updating everyone in this thread.

Pogoplug Software version 3.1 now uses a tap adapter so compatibility with Tunnelblick tun adapter should be resolved.

Read about the new version 'Pogoplug Software Now Compatible With OS X Lion' here http://bit.ly/qckMWb

Kind Regards

Indeed - I tried on my Lion and Tunnelblick is now compatible once more. Thanks for the update!

Yes it works!
