Anyone have the Windows 64-bit version of the previous pogoplug software?

e-mail me at  fastgrowca-pogoplug@yahoo.com

Maybe you can make a directory available to me temporarily so I can grab the original version.

The new version seems intent on sharing my computer, and to me, it's a security problem and the default settings on the new program should start at "share nothing" and let me ADD things, rather than Share everything by default.

At this point I don't know what else is being shared or exposed, so I want to run the Pogoplug device only version.

Help is appreciated

Jeff

What do you see that makes you believe the newer DriveApp is sharing your data with others, without your consent?

libtoks.so, Cloud Engines

There are messages in the new version that convey the idea "This program will let you share things on your computer with others"

Then some details, which are problematic for someone wanting to be careful about sharing their computer contents

First, The default settings check all the boxes for sharing. It should checdk NOTHING and let the user decide to ADD something. Now, a user has to uncheck the boxes to remove things from sharing. Why default to sharing things on the computer?

Another message was somthing like this (I removed the program so don't remember examctly) but what I recall was a message with the following underlying intent:

"Anyone else running the pogoplug software will be able to see the drives and other shared things on your computer" -- as though this is a good thing. It might be a good thing but to start with, it's not something I want to do by default until I'm comfortable with the other features.

The program includes the original CLOUD features, accessing pogoplug devices (and Seagate GoFlexNet devices) which is great.

Also, I had set the original program to show only the P: drive in "My Computer" but the new program simply ignored those settings (on my Mac) and put all my devices on the desktop.

I have both Windows and Mac computers, and Pogoplug and GoFlexNet devices at two different locations (they work great).

Removing the earlier version of PoGoplug software was, in my view, a way to FORCE this program on people who would otherwise want to simply share their pogoplug device, but not their computer. For me, and others perhaps, the cloud is "out there" and I'm simply accessing it. It never occurred to me to put my computer into the cloud, and I don't really want to do that.

Does this answer your question about sharing my data with others without my consent (that is, doing it by default) ??

What is the assumption? That everyone wants to share all their critical files with others, bu default?

And why remove version 2, for those of us who don't need or want sharing of my individual co

The sharing features, while default enabled during the first-time wizard install, can be unchecked and you shouldn't be prompted for it ever again(unless you do a reinstall). Most people seem fine with simply turning off sharing(Remote Access) if they're not using it.

The other issue you've mentioned, showing mutliple-drives when you have it in single-drive mode, sounds like a bug. That we will look into and, if it is a bug, will be documented as such and hopefully fixed in the next build.

We removed the older version of the driveapp, because we'd like everyone to move to the newer version. While you may find someone with the old install, you should note that you'd be running on old(as in, not supported) software. If an update on our servers suddenly break it, the chances of it getting fixed are very low.

Okay, so I reinstalled the version 3 on my Windows machine, then it said there was an update, but before trying the update I checked something.

On my Mac I indicated NOT to share it. Fine, I can control it's visibility.

Then I check the my.pogoplug.com site, and there it is, shown as inactive, but shown just the same.

Soooo, if it shows up out there on the net, then clearly it's showing up as my MacBook on your site, which is NOT the same at all as making it not show up anywhere.

If I check "do not share" my computer, I don't expect to see it showing on any my.pogoplug.com page, including my own.

Also, the latest My.Pogoplug.com has broken the WFS feature in settings. I have two GoFlexNet devices, and only one shows the Read/Write dropdown box.

Pogoplug did fix the problem of showing all the devices and connected drives, but broke the WFS function in the process.

When I go to my.pogoplug.com and have indicated NOT to share my MacBook pro, it shows up there anyway.

The pogoplug site says "offline" for my macbook that I am not sharing. What it should say is abvolutely nothing about a computer I am not sharing, until I share it. Is that reasonable?

Reference to a computer that is not sharing resources should not be sent to pogoplug.com or anywhere else. If it does show up, then it would make me, or anyone else believe that my computer name is being shared without my consent, even if it may be limited to showing up on the pogoplug site. How am I to know it's not showing up on other sites using your software?

I hope it's reasonable to respect the privacy of your users if they don't want their computers registered to your site. The devices, fine, the owner's computers, not so much.

Thanks for reading this

- login to my.pogoplug.com.
- Click on the settings link at the upper-right.
- Find your device with your mac's name
- click "unregister". That will make it go away from the webUI completely.

The WFS option, can you try it at dockstar.pogoplug.com?

WFS: Used to work at the Seagate site, now it's broken there too. My first goflexnet device shows the pulldown box with options for access (read/write etc.)

My second goflexnet device has no pulldown, but it did last week, this week, it's broken.

But last week the added devices didn't even show up on my.pogoplug.com, that's been fixed, at least they show up now, but the WFS still needs work.

Thanks for reading.

Can you try clearing your browser's cache, then access my.pogoplug.com again?

I ended up ejecting the disks from the Seagate devicee, then moving them around and after things settled, the WFS situation cleared up so it's working now.

But that introduced a new set of problems (yikes).

Now the shares I had are all screwed up. When trying to open the shared folder while looking at files I share I see this

----------------------------------------

This folder is shared from a Pogoplug enabled device that is not available.

      Check back soon.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have several friends accessing my files (the whole idea behind the pogoplug marketing strategy as I understand it -- one user tells several others, etc.)

Now I can show the shares by e-mail but none of them are valid since I moved the actual hard disks around.

What would be helpful is a way to re-assign the missing directory to one that it can find in my list of actual directories and confirm or not whether "is this the directory you want to share" or something like that.

Anyway, this pogoplug stuff is pretty new, and I can see a number of things that could be improved and will no doubt get attention.  Not being able to view the contents of a folder without leaving the root or higher level folder is a limit requiring constant backing up. There is no "tree" structure capability yet, I hope that gets added.

Gotta run. Thanks for responding.

True, moving drives around will definitely make all shares invalid.

We're always striving to improve the product and add features that appear to be in high-demand. As newer firmwares & webUIs are introduced, we hope to add more functionality & "user-friendlyness" to Pogoplug allowing to be the best option for people to share their media with others.

Thanks,

The problem also arises when looking at "files shared with me" -- the person sharing may have moved things around and they are no longer available. What is a reasonable solution? Remove the directory, or wait.

I'm sure these things will get sorted out, but I have 4 total devices (2 Goflexnet and 2 Pogoplug) so am running into different problems that others might (I'm dealing with multiple locations).  This means I might run into "strange" behavior before some others.

I used to develop software for banks, insurance companies, etc., and the standard answer was "There are no Bugs in software -- some undesirable or undocucmented features maybe, but no bugs"

with the new software, i didn't find how to use active copy between folders on my computer and the drive plugged on my pogoplug. this work great on 2.5.5, so i'm still using the old version. :-(

May 6, 2011 12:48 PM

@vesuvan

The way that works now, is you must add your PC's folder to the RemoteAccess list.
Then you are able to see that Folder in the webUI and assign active-copies between it and any other folder you see in the WebUI.

huu... thx, i missed that point ;-)

May 6, 2011 1:06 PM

still have a question : My PC folders are on the access list, i can see/browse them in the webUI. But when I go to the "backup" Tab (i guess, it's "sauvegarde" in french), i cannot configure an active copy from the PC to the pogoplug drive : I don't see the pc folders in the first step. But the opposite is working well (pogoplug drive to PC folders) !

any idee ?

not better :-(

I can't see my PC on the first step (just my pogoplug drive). But if I select a folder in My pogoplug drive, i can then copy it on my PC on the second step... thanks anyway for the help.

May 6, 2011 3:26 PM

That's odd.

I don't see this problem when I try it.

You might need to make a ticket at support.pogoplug.com

In the ticket, put a link to this thread. We can then take a look at your particular account.
