I am beginning to find the login sequence and the need to unregister a bit much.  I suppose at first it was the "new" toy euphoria that caused me to over look the tedious steps that must be done in the way I use the "Plug(s)!"

The Pogo farm consists of three (3) physical Plugs and one "soft" Plug!  Accessing via my.pogoplug.com is prettyMuch the same and does not appear to need any attention in this discussion.

With the "new" Beta/postBeta" software I find myself wishing there was a "SKIP" check box that would do maybe several steps for second and subsequent uses:  1)  Put the pogoplug icon on the desktop during install or after the first use; and, 2)  Stop asking me if I am new to the plug or if I already have an account since this becomes a bit annoying after the umpty-ump time I have had to click next to dismiss this screen/window/alert.  Three ( 3) ) would be to make this check box cause all of this "Stuff" that is great for the first few times that could be the "user default" settings for the current computer GO AWAY!

The other issue with the "Welcome To Pogoplug" screen that appears each time is that the default setting is "I am new to Pogoplug!" which in my hurry to get beyond this irritation I often do not click the second radioButton "I already have a Pogoplug account" that causes even more frustration from more wasted time and more unnecessary clicking and ... .  AND, the Enter key is not active and "NEXT" must be clicked ... .  Then I "AGAIN" have to "Select Folders For Remote Access" unchecking those that are not appropriate that should be remembered in a .ini (or equivalent startup file) ... . AND, there is a "Product Tour" that should be controlled by a checkBox after the "first" time where now I must click "Skip the tour" button each time.

With the "new" software, I have to go into the "guts" of the OS and "stop" the "dokanmnt" service to prevent the "new" Pogoplug software from loading.  I choose to be in control of my computer rather than being a "mindless" dossel servant of the age-of-technology.  Even more so, it is essential that, with limited control over the Active Copy, it could start before I have confirmed and verified that the "watched" folder ONLY has content that should be sent to the Plug and subsequently shared or submitted into the social network.  (read privacy, due diligence, local-state-federal laws, etc.).

With the "new" software that is postBeta (NOT a factor with the physical units or the softUnits using my.pogoplug.com) the Plug environment has an "anal" need to be "P:" where it should be a "dynamic" choice or at least allow the selection the firstTime (each Registration/put in a .ini) and then dispense with this builtIn with probably unintended consequences such as, "The drive letter is already assigned!"  My recollection is the "old" version did not seem to have this problem; or, at least I never encountered it since I wrote "script" files to do automatic backups using xcopy that required the physical Pogoplug mapped drive letter that would sometimes change so I had to take this into account and test for what drive letter was being used.  In to "old" version it seemed "P:" was the default and if used another letter would be selected.

In the "new" software, I have an additional step.  Do I want "remote access" or not.  It would seem that if I am accessing a "physical pogoplug" this should not be something that is of any use/value because, at present, the "physical pogoplug" is not actually capable of initiating remote access.  One either looks at what is there; uploads; downloads or does a client thing on a server.  The physical Pogoplug is NOT another client operating in duplex with the user at the other end.

With "Remote Access" off, the software acts much like the "old" preBeta software.  This is good?  Maybe!

Now, whether I want to access another physical pogoplug on this computer workstation; or; I wish to use the postBeta software from another computer I must UNREGISTER the Pogoplug I am, or was, using.  This gets time consuming and complicated.  I suppose, the good side is I remember my passwords and eMail addresses.

Here are the steps that I have found that must be done:

1)  Open Pogoplug Preferences

2)  Do the "Unregister this computer" sequence of steps

3)  Get the "Welcome To Pogoplug" screen "AGAIN"

4)  Make sure the radioButton for "I already have a Pogoplug account" is clicked

5)  Click Next

6)  Sign In To Pogoplug and as appropriate enter my Premium License Code

7)  "REMEMBER" the Enter key is grey'd and "NEXT" must be clicked

8)  Then I have to "again" make my choices on the "Select Folders For Remote Access" screen/page.

9)  Then I get the "Product Tour"  AGAIN

10)  I have to remember that Next is not appropriate; rather, I have to click "Skip the tour"

11)  I again have another screen that is not useful, to me, called the "Pogoplug Setup Complete" where I can go back or finish ...

12)  Finally I am there, unless I am on a computer where "P:" is already assigned.  If it is, I am "screwed" since remapping may a) not be possible; or, b) there may be software that launches and attempts to put stuff on the pogoplug drive that should not go there.  The dedicated "P:" is UGLY!

13)  Oh, and, I now have to "whack" the "Remote Access" AGAIN when I do not want it especially if I am connecting to a physical Pogoplug and not software version.

14)  There are also other steps; however, I think I have conveyed why one might question the UI and its implementation.

15)  BTW, just "what more" does the "Premium License" get me that I do not have with the free version of the postBeta software (softPogoplug)?

16)  Submitted to support (#34227); and more comments probably to be added later ...

Pogoplug Farming(tm) is Fun!
