My backup software can make backups to remote drives as long as an active IP address can be supplied. Is there a way to ascertain the IP address of the Pogoplug Pro or any of its attached drives and stored files so I can enter this information in my backup software?

Hi, I don't know if this will work, but you might try this:

1.  Download the Opera browser -it's free.

2.  Install Opera Unite.

3.  Install the Web Proxy app.

4.  Follow the instructions--the important part would be to specify the directory you want to back up to.  That would be your pogoplug (I have defined my Pogoplug as drive P-- there are instructions for this on the pohoplug site.

5.  When you have finished the installation of the Web Proxy app, Opera will provide you with an IP address.  (I use this tio run my own website!)

6.  Whether this will work for your backup purpose, I have no idea.

7.  Please let me know if it works.

I too created a sample website using your instructions and a little tweaking of my own.
Here is an article on creating a Thumb Drive website with your Pogoplug.

Regarding the OP. If you use the Pogoplug drive program and have it running it will create what appears to be a local drive on your computer. You should then be able to use the backup software because it will believe it is backing up local hard drives on your computer.

I would give that a try.

Thanks TC, I could not have done it without your examples and the info on dot.tk. You did all the leg work. All I did was use your info and then ported it to that example.

Can the web site be private and require a user ID and password?
