So I just updated the client on my system..and now i'm unable to find the active copy setup for syncing a local folder to my pogoplug?

Can someone comment if this was removed..or if they renamed/moved it elsewhere in the preferences.

I see the "share my folders for pictures/desktop/ etc " but does that sync if my laptop was off?

Active copy is now on the my.pogoplug.com site under the backup tab. You would first setup sharing of your Laptop to the Pogoplug (at least the folders you want backed up) and then select the From > To on the webpage.

what if you have multiple clients?

What i'm noticing is that if i shared my "desktop" to the pogoplug from 2 clients.. they are overwriting the folder on the pogoplug.

I have a folder on a PC I want to sync with active copy. The folder shows up under share but not as a source under active copy. Can you give me ome pointers on what I am doing wrong?

Thanks,

Dan

I'm having a similar problem.

I installed a new PogoPlug s/w on a laptop and I shared some folders. I can see the folder as a destination for Active Copy but I don't see it available as a source.

I got it going!

Had to go to the laptop s/w and turn off PogoPlug s/w, then back on. Hit refresh in my browser and it's there as a source now.

I am having the same problem - laptop shows up in destination but not source. Sorry for being dense, but it is late and I've been working too long on this problem - what is s/w?

Thanks

Same problem here. Annoying.

Yeah I gave up on this.. Pogoplug is no longer what I bought a few years ago.. The new software is too bloated and full of features most people don't have the home bandwidth to even support

Am very confused here. I am trying to set up active copies for some of my folders on my PC's hard drive to back them up onto my external drive. I have done this lots of times in the past without issue.

Now when I try to add the source folder, it only lets me choose a folder from my backup external drive, which would be the destination drive. I have tried rebooting & everything else I can think of. Can anyone offer any ideas to get things working as they used to?

Cheers

There's a few threads about this now (I just replied on another where someone had raised the same query for the first time). Can we get some feedback from CE about this one? Only it looks like a software alteration rather than an error, so it would be great to know if this is a design error of some kind (ie they can issue an update to fix) or if this is how they plan for the functionality to be.

I'd be surprised if it is the latter, given the function was there and isn't now.

@ kelvinjay - Ok, glad I'm not the only one scratching his head over this. Since teh Pogo plug drive is for BACKING UP, I am utterly confused as to why it only allows you to choose FROM the Popgo plug drives for the SOURCE and then shows your PC when it's asking for the Destination?!?!?!? This is totally backwards!!

You can back up or sync from your computer using the Pogoplug browser, uploader. Not sure why you can only go from Pogoplug's attached HD to your computer on the webpage but the browser program works pretty good.

Thanks Brandon. JUST figured out the Sync function in the Browser. Talk about over complicating things and NOT having very good instructions, help or documentation!! Come on Pogoplug, get your stuff together!

Thought this was weird too. Something changed with a recent software update! Looks like you can do Syncs via the Progoplug Browser but could have been better explained and the sync in the browser makes is so you have to sync to the default folders like "PHOTOS" or "VIDEOs" In the web interfrace you can specific what folder to copy into.

Also the interface doesnt make it clear exactly whick device you are syncing TO from your computer.

Need to fix!

You can sync folders and select where to using the Pogoplug browser.

See if this helps.

Thanks. I figured it out after playing around but your graphic is great!

Yes, thank you! Buffalo should hire you to do their help and manuals!!

A few questions with Sync. I've been able to add different file folders to sync (+ Files), however you can change where it stores them to by clicking the (change) hyperlink. I changed all my files synce locations on the pogoplug to a sub folder on my Pogoplug. But then when I watched it sync, I saw it change all the save locations right back to the Root (public) of my Pogoplyg?!?!?!

Second, can anyone confirm that in order for files to sync, you have to have the Browser application running? From what I can tell it only syncs when I open the Browser and click on sync.

Not impressed with these new "changes" to their software and I have installed and am currently trying free continuous backup software like Idle Backup and Genie Timeline.

I guess my one question in all this is why Pogoplug feel the need to have two separate apps in the Browser and the main Pogoplug app. It feels like there's a huge amount of overlap in the featuresets (ultimately both allow you to browse your content), so I don't really get why the Browser app's featureset isn't simply integrated into the main app or vice versa.

Also the presence of Active Copy in the main Pogoplug app is undermined entirely by the Sync feature on the Browser app.

I really don't understand the thought processes in coding these two as separate programs. As Boneman says about, its over-complicating things and with little by way of communication from CE as to 1) what the changes are here and 2) how to get the best of them.

Team Pogoplug: take note, please!

Its obvious they want you to use their cloud and buy more storage .

They are killing the functionality of the pogoplug to gain monthly revenue.

The whole point is to have a private cloud with no fees, that the reason I bought this crap hardware and software that almost works and now they are cutting its functions.

Webapp is better for things like backups as it is running the pogoplug directly. Your PC's can restart and be portable without interrupting the operations. Think of pogoplug as a server with a web interface, put it and your network infrastructure on UPS power and it is quite a nice solution.

November 29, 2011 9:40 AM

Yes but the issue with the webapp Dan is that you can no longer instigate a proper sync across your local drive (running the PP app) and the drive on the PP itself. Hence people griping; you now need to download and install a second app, the PP Browser, to create a sync between files on your local hard drive and the one on the PP.

A bit daft - and silly, given you could do it until recently too!

Ha! Bingo! I got the same problem, and belive me I tried everything... re-install with rebooting in between disconect and reconect to no avail. It drives me crazy!!!

Come on Pogoplug! This is a long thread on a common problem and your silence is frankly deafening!

First, for goodness sake please sort out why many of us cant get the backup option on the web app to allow any other source folders than ones on the external pogoplug drive itself! Completely the wrong way around!

Second, whoever decided to create two separate (three if you include the web app) ways of doing practically the same thing needs sacking -what a cluster!!! You have to keep the pogoplug upload software running all the time as well as the normal pogoplug desktop software AND it doesnt sync anyway!!!

Ive had a pogoplug for 2 years nw and it has NEVER worked properly. Your staff are always very polite and very prompt in replying, but nearly always dont provide any answers (other than to repeat whatis already on the web site).
