The video file must be in a form that the pogoplug understands. So unless you have the new pogoplug video the file must be in mp4 or m4v or H.265.

Okay, am I missing something obvious here? I have a bunch of movies listed until media/movies. When I click on it and it get the options, I can hit download, and it will download the file to my desktop. However, when I click on "watch movie" it does nothing.
Am I missing something here?
Rock, by "the new pogoplug" do you mean one of the ones specifically designed with more video delivery? Not the Pogoplug Pro itself?
Yes, the pogoplug video, not the pro. As I understand the pogoplug video encodes on the fly which eliminates the need for your videos to be in the h.265 format. However if you have the pogoplug pro you must transcode your videos first, either with the built in hardware or through a third party software
i think they both are supposed transcode in the background. even with the GPU, i don;t think the Video can transcode on the fly. someone correct me if I am wrong. the Pro doesn;t have it so it does it all in software.
the Video is SUPPOSED to have a dedicated GPU that assists in the transcode process. how it uses it is a mystery to me, it;s not like the video has video out ports.
However, reading on the Video forum, not sure if it;s actually working or if users are running into the same issue us Pro owners have run into(that;s its slow and inconsistent).
however, your mileage may vary.....I gave up on the feature as it doesn't seem to work for me and I turned off the feature and just play the original file. MP4 files cut down to standard definition resolutions seem to play adequately.
You have some things right and some wrong. As far as I understand the pro only has software/hardware that can transcode before the video is streamed. However, the pogoplug video transcodes on the fly, basically meaning that it supports a wide arrange of formats because it is unnecessary to transcode before streaming. The pro only supports one format meaning that all videos must be in the h.265 format in order to stream properly.
do you have a video and is it working properly for you? was considering it until i heard about the recall issues.
i am able to stream standard definition avi files by playing the original from my pro.
any choppiness or problems I have attributed to any and all of the following being a factor-
either my phone's power(droid incredible)
bugs in my phone's video programs(have had most success with Moboplayer)
relative upload and download speed of my internet(source and receiving end)-dsl and Verizon 3G
low horsepower on in the pogoplug pro(marvell processor with only 128 mb of ram)
general speed of my usb connected drives-USB attached SATA 7200 seems to be most consistent, USB flash drives are a little choppy.
general flakiness of the pogoplug firmware and client software
best results have been via local lan to attached USB 7200 rpm sata drive. MP4 files seems to play well enough through Chrome Browser.
I dont have the video and havent heard of the recalls. I have the normal pogoplug, not the pro. Very pleased. All files are in h.265 and stream wonderfully on local lan and even over the internet in other locations. Have not had much of any problems at all. It even works great to my ipod touch 2g.
