What if you're having this issue on an older mac with a 32bit core duo processor that will not run anything in 64bit mode. Am I just out of luck?

Hi all
In Snow Leopard System Preferences itself is a 64-bit application. You can still install and use many 32-bit preference panes. But whenever you access one of them, System Preferences will prompt you to quit it so it can relaunch in 32-bit mode. (Likewise, if you then want to access a 64-bit pane, System Preferences will need to quit and relaunch in 64-bit mode.). To avoid this many people are setting their System Preferences to launch in 32-bit mode by default. Setting your System Preference to launch in 32-bit mode will result in failure to launch the Pogoplug Preference Pane.
Here is how to check if your System Preference is set to launch as 32-bit mode.
1. Close the System Preference window.
2. Open the Finder
3. Go to 'Applications'
4. Select 'System Preferences' in the Finder, select File » Get Info (Command-I),
5. Locate a checkbox with the label 'Open in 32-bit mode'
6. If the checkbox is checked, that is a problem. Uncheck it, close the Window and relaunch the System Preferences window.
@g26er,
We are aware of that issue for older Macs, and have identified a fix. We are working to get that fix out as soon as possible, and I will post in the Desktop forum as soon as this fix is available.

I just bought this product at best Buy. I am upset that it will not allow me to set preferences. I get the same preference error. I am running an older iMac (prior to 2007). I do hope that you can fix this soon before I return the device.
Just installed and it tells me "Could not load pogoplug preference pane" under Mac OS X 10.6.7 I do hope that you fix this soon for people with older macs. Mine is a 2006 iMac. I don't want to return the device but will if it is not fixed within a week. Not a good first impression for sure.

I suggest you contact support (they are well aware of the older macs issue) so to be among the firsts who get the fix.
Hi all,
A new build that resolves this problem for users with a processor with 32-bit architecture is now ready for you to download. You can grab this from the following URL.
http://download.pogoplug.com/install/mac/pogopluginstall.pkg
Note that in order to open preferences with this build on a machine with 32-bit architecture, you must do one of the following things:
- Select "Open Pogoplug Preferences" from the Pogoplug icon on the upper right-hand side of the toolbar
- Open the Prefernce Pane manually at /Applications/Pogoplug/PreferencePane
For now, you cannot open the preference pane from System Preferences. That is something we are working to fix, and that will come at a later date, but there is no difference in operation between that preference pane and the one that installs with this build.
Please note that while this build will work for all users, it is specifically designed for users with processors with a 32-bit architecture. This means that if you have Core 2 Duo or later, you do not need to download this build. If you do have a Core 2 Duo or later and you run into this problem, you should follow the instructions posted in at the very top of this thread.

I don't have the 32-bit architecture but 64 bit macbookpro, and I followed the instruction at the very top and noticed I don't have that problem as the checkbox for launching application in 32 bit mode isn't checked, yet I'm still having the problem of unable to open up Pogoplug's preference panel and console dialog reports that hbplug has error out. I'm totally stumped! Also, I just bought the upgrade to premium software of Pogoplug so I could stream, but now it seems it kind of pointless for me as I cannot really use Pogoplug software on my Mac! Please help?

Please help?I believe this is not the same error as described; does it still happen with the new 3.1?
With version 3.1 pogoplug, I'm still experiencing hbplug is not working and so I can't really registered my Macbook Pro with Pogoplug, therefore I can't really access my other nodes' drives.
Hi anon, can you describe exactly what happens when you try to open your Pogoplug Preferences?
Thanks

Nick, it failed to register my Macbook Pro as it asked me to wait, something of that sort, as if it was trying to register my hardware. Eventually it said that Pogoplug failed to work!
@anon,
Check out my reply to the thread below. I believe this workaround will fix this problem for you. If it does not, you should open up a ticket at support.pogoplug.com so that our support team can resolve your issue.
