Hi John, what exactly are you concerned about? If all you want to do is share a file, you can do just that, and don't have to post to any of those sites when you share with Pogoplug. In fact, it won't even work unless you manually set up your accounts in settings.

I am not a "social media" fan.? I want access to my own files and I want to offer access to specific people.? I want nothing to do with any of the websites named above.? Is there any way to remove any reference to these sites as well as any other similar sites, or have I wasted my money on my pretty pink pogoplug?
At this point, I am not even concerned with SHARING a file. I am concerned with my own access to my files. I have a WD internal SATA HDD that I was planning to use with a USB/SATA adapter. (This plan exploded when the Pogoplug totally failed to recognize the drive) I am temporarily using a 2.5" external harddrive (USB powered) that is "borrowed" from another computer while a new 3.5" external drive (Externally powered) is being shipped. This "borrowed" hard drive (NTFS) has numerous files already saved from the previous computer it was attached to. When I attempt to open the files on the harddrive, it goes into a search mode searching for my "facebook friends". (I have no facebook friends because I have no facebook account and never intend to have a facebook account.) The rotating donut just spins and spins and nothing else happens until I unplug Pogoplug. I do not intend to share anything, Pogoplug or otherwise, on any "social network" and do not need a device that will not function because it is continually searching for my non-existent facebook friends. Is there a solution to this problem other than throwing this device in the trash and forget about the whole idea of a convenient file storage system.
Perhaps I've missing a specific setting. I don't want social sharing options displayed on files I've shared -- specially for files I want to remain private. For example, files I share with family. How can these be disabled?
KristofCreative, I have had to remove my "San Francisco pink" Pogoplug device from my system and have not attempted to use it for several months now for the very reason that you mention. The Pogoplug software is miserably "immature" and does not seem to function in any reliable fashion whatsoever. As I stated in my previous post, the software is more concerned with connecting with facebook friends than making your files available to you across your network. If you learn a solution to this condition, I would be very interested in learning how to make the hardware work as advertised.
I don't have the Pogoplug device. I just bought the Pogoplug plugin to use with my laptop and Drobo and, so far, I'm very unhappy with it.
My understanding was that I could stream files from my computer or Drobo. In reality, it appears the files have to "processed" before they can be streamed. How am I supposed to know when a file is "ready" so I can share it?
Oddly enough, I could get a .mov file to stream to my iPhone but couldn't get the same movie (shared via email link) to stream via web browser. Wouldn't work at all. Perhaps I just missed something or misunderstood what the software would do, but having social sharing options on the web page of a shared file is a deal breaker.
I was truly hoping this would be "the" software solution to take the place of Apple's .me service. Doesn't seem to be the case though.
I would appreciate feedback from Pogoplug people about this.
