I have 2 pogoplug pros at 2 different locations as well as the desktop sharing software installed on my laptop. When browsing on the iPad 2 using PogoPlugHD, I see all of the drives/shared folders in the left pane, however one of the drives shows no content in the right pane. Through the web interface, or explorer on the desktop, all content is shows and accessible. On the iPad, the other drive and folders all show content. I have rebooted the iPad to no no avail. Any suggestions on how to make the content of the drive visible again?

Thanks.

Same issue here.

April 11, 2011 10:45 AM

I'm having the same issue, but all folders show no content via the iPad Pogoplug HD app. Via Safari and the mypogoplug web interface all folder show content as expected. The iPhone Pogoplug app also shows content as expected.

I tried deleting the iPad app and re-installing but the problems remains. The issue cannot be corrupted firmware as suggested in a different post.

Other suggestions please?

You may see the files on your Ipad if you are on the same lan, (local network). This is one of the MANY issues with the unusable ipad application

Same here ipad app is totally unusable. I own three pogopluggs and the premium version of the software and am ready to chuck it all out the window.

Yeah, I am also having serious issues with the ipad application. The iphone application kinda works (very slow), but the ipad one is just locked up on the Print Job page. Tried re-installing, didn't help.

I have only 1 pogo plug which I just got for my iPad but it doesn't work to stream my videos-and music only plays mp3 & wav format. It's the videos I want. Do I have to upload them ALL FIRST or what. I got a short one to play but all the rest open and immediately close.

LATER after two days of this: I don't know what I was thinking this device could do,that I can immediately do on my ACER One from my HD. Of course I wanted USB data on my iPad. To do that it seems I have convert all my wmv files to MP4. I already can play these on iPad with VLC app.

I can't even get in my PC pogo app cos the log in page is too big on my 10" screen. So I use my browser on both to go to the site-cos the app crashes my iPad & IPhone. Why I having to work around all these problems with pogo plug is cos I wanted it to do IPad that VLC & BUZZ player do that for little stuff I receive but not my files.

Hi CCUCKE

Under media settings on your my.pogoplug.com set "optimize your media for playback" "on demand". Then when you show this in your iphone/ipad chose optimize and wait some time.

Another thing if you will optimize all at once: choose "allways" in stead of "on demand"

However, if you do choose to enable "optimize" then be prepared to wait for hours and hours before the process will complete (or even days if you have a lot of video). I never use the built-in optimize on the Pogoplug, I get much better results using Handbrake to convert my video to a low-bit-rate, streaming-friendly version that works even over my slow DSL connection.

If you plan on streaming video from a remote location (using either 3G wireless or a remote WiFi hotspot) you first need to know the UPLOAD data rate that you get from your ISP. This will generally be MUCH lower than your DOWNLOAD rate. You can test for this by using a website like speedtest.net. I'd measure the UPLOAD rate several times over a few days to get an average result. After this, recompress your videos using Handbrake at a bitrate that is no more than about 80% of your average UPLOAD data rate (calculate the target bitrate using the sum of both the audio and video compression data rates, you may have to reduce the size -- dimensions -- of the video to get decent results). Use Handbrake's H.264 compressor with web/streaming optimizations enabled and note that for my DSL connection I encode at only 320Kbps with a video dimension that fits within a 320x240 limit (varies depending on whether the video is in a wide-screen aspect ratio).

From my experience, recompressing your video to match your ISP's upload speed is the single most important step in getting streaming video to work over 3G or from a remote WiFi location. If the data rate isn't low enough (to match your upload speeds) then streaming video just won't work. However, if you are directly connected to your local network (i.e. iPad/iPhone and Pogoplug on the same network) then streaming shouldn't be much of a problem and recompression may not be required -- since in this situation you should have multi-megabit data rates which should be fast enough for anything that your iPad/iPhone can handle.

Last tip, you will probably find that the Pogoplug website (my.pogoplug.com) will offer much more reliable remote streaming than either of the Pogoplug iOS apps. In fact, for me, the only app that works for remote streaming is the latest iPhone app running on my first generation iPad (used on the iPad at 2X scaling). The Pogoplug HD app does not work (for remote streaming) and the iPhone app does not work on my iPhone 3GS (again for remote streaming). However, both apps work when running on my local network.

same issue, i can see the contents of my folders, but when i click a photo i get a "connection error"

no problem with the iphone app

There are issues with the current iPad app (PogoplugHD) running against the Pogoplug software. We submitted an updated app to Apple and are waiting for approval. The new app is simply called Pogoplug, and is a universal app for both iPhone and iPad. We will be removing the PogoplugHD app as soon as the new app is approved. We'll put up a post as soon as the app is approved and available.

Have you tried the standard Pogoplug app for the iPhone on your iPad? That works fairly well on my iPad, better than the official Pogoplug HD app that is supposed to be used on the iPad.

Well I read that Seagate has joined the race to give iPad an external hard drive but it won't be out til July:' Computerworld - Seagate today announced a battery-powered wireless external drive for mobile devices, including those powered by Apple's iOS, such as the iPad.

Seagate's GoFlex Satellite mobile wireless storage, offers up to 500GB of additional storage wirelessly for any mobile device with Wi-Fi access over 802.11 b/g/n. " they have an app now though In the store?? BTW the quick connect app gave my direct access to my laptop and the hard drives connected to it. Don't know why I didn't stay eith that.
