I have a main desktop, dual boot XP & Ubuntu 10.04, with a 0+1 RAID of 1TB that I use for family photos etc. and torrents, primarily anime. My home network includes my wife's laptop, another dual boot desktop used by a relative in the basement, a Netgear WNR3500L wireless router w/usb, and whatever laptops or game stations the grandkids bring from across the street.

File and printer sharing has been very hit or miss under XP and I am still messing with registry values to eliminate a "Not enough server storage" error. I am down to less than printer200GB free on the RAID and want to move 600+GB of torrents to network storage. My son, a s/w engineer w/AMI (BIOS), suggested I set up a linnux server to solve the problems but I don't have the budget for an acceptable motherboard, memory, drives, etc.

I can get a Pogoplug Pro and a 2TB USB drive for $150. Can I also attach a couple of printers for LAN access?

I found some answers via other threads. Most likely, my HP Officejet 4215xi All-in-one will work but my Canon Pixma 100 will not.

The Pogoplug basically IS a Linux server...just a stripped down version in a funny case. Also, if you're unfamiliar with server administration (especially Linux server administration), I would just stick to getting the Pogoplug and save yourself the headache (and money). The developers have worked really hard so that the product and service will work right out of the box. I don't have any printers hooked up to my Pogoplug at the moment, but I was browsing through the settings the other day and saw an option for it to connect to Google's cloud print.
