I'm working on correcting the issue with the Pro, but in the mean time, optware should work for you.
The basics:

Samba:

I just received and installed my Pogoplug Pro. It worked like a charm! But now I would love to install Samba.
The problem is that there are many 'howto's' and the ones I found are either not meant for Pogoplug Pro or out of date (dead links e.a.)
The Plugapps Wiki states that Pogoplug Pro is not supported.
Can anyone point me to an up to date howto to install Samba on my Pogoplug Pro?
TIA!
I feel like a complete idiot, but I don't know where to start. I viewed the first link but to me it's jibberish. I'm familiar with linux, I'm an Ubuntu user, but what I'm really looking for is a step-by-step tutorial.
I tried http://www.plugapps.com/index.php5/PlugApps:Pogoplug_Pro_Chroot and http://www.plugapps.com/index.php5/Application:Samba
but after following those steps I get stuck when executing the smbpasswd command. I get an " GLIBC_2.12 required" error and the only answer I found is http://plugapps.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=864 and that's not very helpful.
I gave up for now, maybe someone can give me hope for a fresh new start on the Samba stuff?
Thanks!
here is a step by step - http://www.ctrlaltdeleted.com/?p=3 I got it installed on my pink, but for some reason cannot edit the smb.conf file (using Putty).
Thanks! But does that step by step tutorial work on the Pro? And does it install the opt and samba software on the plug itself or on an usb stick/thumbrive? Can it ruin my pogoplug? And can I still use the standard Pogoplug Software next to samba?
This would install it into /opt as that is on a usb drive. You can use this beside the CE my.pogoplug.com services.
Hello All- I am unable to get Samba installed on my Pogoplug because I get stuck at the following setup: get the optware ipkg system
wget http://ipkg.nslu2-linux.org/feeds/optware/cs08q1armel/cross/unstable/ipkg-
opt_0.99.163-10_arm.ipk
I get an error saying Connecting to ipkg.nslu2-linux.org (140.211.169.161:80)
wget: server returned error: HTTP/1.1 404 Not Found. Please help!! This is also happening on a friends pogoplug that is on a completely different network, so I don't think it is a network problem. Thanks!
Jeff
