Both products came out at the same time and both are priced the same - around $209. Is this a trade-off  between big storage but slow video streaming (Cloudstor) versus no storage but instant video streaming (Pogoplug Video)?

I am leaning towards the Pogoplug Video because of its advertised instant streaming, but I am also attracted by the 2 terabyte capacity of the CloudStor. Is the difference in video streaming quality and convenience noticeable?

1 would appreciate your advice.

The CloudStor 1 TB is 139.99 on Amazon and the Pogoplug Video is 188.19. So a little less than the $209.00

I think it comes down to your needs. For example if you tend to stream videos a lot them I would go for the Video. If it will be used more for file sharing or backups and you want Time Machine capabilities then your may want the Cloudstor.

Here is a funny one. Soon after as I posted the above I got an email that shows a special coupon code for the PogoPLug Video on Buy.com icon you enter the code BUYPOGOVIDEO in the 'promo code' box on the final checkout page at Buy.com. The code brings it down to $129.99. Maybe you can both a Video and a Cloudstor. Smile

@Filibogado--Remember too that you can expand the storage of the Pogoplug Video infinitely (in theory) with multiple USB drives.

In the end, it might cost a bit more, but you could pick up the Pogoplug Video and expand it with as many USB connected drives as you wish. You can also hook up multiple drives via USB hubs for even more storage, if you run out of ports.

Hi Peter, I was referring to the 2 TB Cloudstor which is now $219 at Amazon, still closer price-wise to the $199 list for the Pogoplug Video than the $139 1 TB model you cited. Without the magically appearing $70 discount on the Pogoplug Video, for which I will forever be grateful to Pogoplug, the two are really comparable on an apples-to-apples basis price-wise. I don't know if Pogoplug management is aware of it, but they appear to be in a pricing quandary. Remember that Buffalo is marketing their product as "the only NAS hard drive with a built-in Pogoplug", then tries to compete with a standalone Pogoplug Video at approximately the same price. For the "same price" logic to be sustainable, the Pogoplug Video has to be significantly superior to, and more valuable, than the apparently barebones Pogoplug that is inside the Buffalo box. Otherwise, either Buffalo is giving away for free 2 terabytes worth of storage, or Pogoplug Video is so vastly superior feature-wise to the Pogoplug inside the Cloudstor. I believe the latter is the case, so I went for the Pogoplug Video, with the $70 discount being the sweetener that addressed the pricing imbalance I described above. Cheers.

Yup,

It goes right to the coupon code entry. Kinda a strange way, but once you put in the code it comes up with the Pogoplug Video and you can see the price and make sure you are getting the deal before committing.

Can anyone identify if PogoPlug Video is superior to the Buffalo Cloudstor? I currently have the 1TB Cloudstor. I can stream movies on my EVO with 4G turned on with minimal buffering. It's impressive to say the least. Although when streaming over 3G I suffer (not surprised) from considerable buffering issues?

"If" purchasing PogoPlug Video will resolve 3G streaming issue, then my choice is obvious. However, streaming over 3G is streaming over 3G no matter how you slice it. Has anyone tested and compared both? I find is hard to believe the problem will disappear.

BTW...Excellent point Filibogado

personally, i would go with the pogoplug video. from what i read about the buffalo on smallcloudbuilder.com it said the software is stored on the hard drive itself. so you can't replace the drive. i like having the pogoplug and plug in whatever drives i want. i think the pogoplug video is a bit more powerful too, but i am not sure.
