What is the URL of the new Web Interface?
I can't get to my.pogoplug.com....
This has been mostly fixed now (April 10). See below.
I have very mixed feelings about the new web UI. One of the first things I noticed that I didn't like was the way the public shares look. One thing I really liked about the previous UI was the simplicity of the public folders. When a user would see one of my publicly visible pages, there would be simple thumbnails of files available...that was it. Now, theres a menu on the left and another menu at the bottom. What's more is that I use both a pink pogoplug and a biz model...which is supposed to remove all the pogoplug branding, no? Now there's branding all over the bottom of the share. There are a lot of things that I think have been improved...but I'm not a big fan of the way the public shares look after the update. Am I alone on this???
Also, I love the option to see an image in high resolution, however, why is it that the option is only available when in full screen mode?
I just went the URL that I always go to (my.pogoplug.com). Here's a public page that shows the new UI if you can't see it with your account: http://my.pogoplug.com/share/wCDLFzULhETFeo5CnYvSTg/
Just had a quick look at the new UI. Very clean - not so cluttered as the previous. Seems faster - any other views?
Hi everyone..
I have very mixed feelings as well...!
First of all, I don't like the new interface design - really preferred the previous one - why?
- better structure (now all is white and small, my opinion)
- easier copy/move of files
- video streaming is now broken
- uploads go via internet instead of local network (I'm using CHROME)
Besides that, it's my personal taste..
BUT: The new features are the bomb! More details for sharing / options etc... and the iPhone app is amazing as well..
Honestly, next time I'd prefer a notification of the changes or even a poll if people like the new design/interface or not. Now we just got it without previous annotation etc..
Just my thoughts
best, Andy
What was wrong with my.pogoplug.com ??
Answer: It's fixed now
What is the advantage of changes made to it?
See below:
What's still wrong -- MISSING pogoplug devices on my.pogoplug.com but present in the earlier page.
The "Settings" in my.pogoplug.com are on my system with 3 pogoplug devices, two GoFlex Net devices and one 4-port Pogoplug device - only ONE device shows up. In the older system, goflexnet.pogoplug.com all 3 devices appear, and show the drives hooked to them.
And what's missing is the second goflexnet drive, and the new pogoplug 4 port device. So it's not a goflex problem, it's a my.pogplug.com settings page problem.
Now that my drives appear on the library view on my.pogoplug.com, I think the new interface has all the features of the older one. Pogoplug might let users go from "old" to "new" and let them decide which is better. They do need to fix the "settings" page, right now it's got problems.
At this point, the new library page has everything the old one has, but the options are in different locations or accessed differently.
I can now use either my.pogoplug.com or goflexnet.pogoplug.com and switch from new to old at will. This option should be made available to everyone, maybe it is now.
What's left to make my.pogoplug.com work right? Fix the settings page to show all the devices on the lan. The way the old goflexnet.pogoplug.com page works.
I have not tested the video streaming, but my audio is not streaming.
Also, when logged in, I preferred it when the name I gave to each drive was in large text. Right now, the name of the Pogoplug is in large text, followed by the name of the actual hard drive (smaller text). Can we please switch this back so that the drive name is the dominant text?
Could we go back to having large thumbnails as a view option (preferably the default view)?
Can we please remove all the navigational menus on public shares and put it back to just the files being displayed? The tabs at the top, menu on the left, and links at the bottom...they all need to go. I would only like to see the files I'm sharing along with the breadcrumb trail (Folder> Subfolder> Files, etc)
I actually really like the new white look
I HAVE noticed that files seem to load faster...so kudos to getting that done.
I'm not digging the new UI at all. After reading your comments, I'm wondering if its loading properly.
- there seems to be no backwards navigation out of folders
- I can't un-share
- doesn't seem to be any faster
- wont let me share an entire folder
(had to send separate shares for each file)>:(
I have only been a pogo plug owner for a few months, but I am not at all happy with my investment! someone please, shed some light on the situation!
MNS -- Actually they've made the webpage far more interactive, with more hotspots.
Backward navigation is done near the top of the window under the menu items.
On my drive, for example, I might see this (a set of buttons with these labels and a > between them)
Audio Video > I-DRIVE > MP3-Favorites > Stones
All I have to do is click ANY of the directory names to jump back. In fact, this approach is much faster than backing up, you can jump back to I-DRIVE for example by clicking on that button.
Sharing and Unsharing -- right click the item (file or directory) and a pulldown menu shows up, you can do more than share, 7 options come up, share is the last one.
Then to the right, you'll see a Down Arrow, click it and the same 7 options appear.
If an item is already shared, you'll get 8 options, the added one is to stop sharing, and the share option becomes "edit share" and you can remove individual e-mail addresses by clicking the X in front of the e-mail address.
It's a lot faster in my view and more like the way a software program running on your computer should work, with the right mouse button (the MENU button) presenting options, and using the left mouse button (the SELECT button) doing what it does as well.
It was confusing at first, but all the capabilities are there in my opinion.
You can try the old system by going to http://goflexnet.pogoplug.com and use the Seagate interface (the old one).

This feature was there in the old UI as well. I actually liked the old one better because it was more prominent.

My resonse was to MNS "...there seems to be no backwards navigation out of folders"
It wasn't a comment on comparing the old to the new approach. Yes, the old system had larger buttons with larger labels, but the new system works fine and has the "backwards navigation" that MNS didn't see.

Jeff,
Thanks for that input. It turns out there are 2 different views (icon or list) the icon view, that I was in, did not show anything you described, but the list mode seems to fix it. Now I have the navigation I was looking for, the ability to select certain files/folders, the ability to manage sharing by rightclicking and so on.
Thanks a bunch!
MNS
In the "Sharing" and "Files I share" mode, did you notice an additional option:
1. Organize by E-mail
or
2. Organize by Share
and for Files shared with me, I can figure out who is sharing with me
by e-mail address.
I don't think this was possible in the earlier version.
What would be very nice is in the listing using the pogoplug program (in Finder or My Computer) if they could also somehow show the e-mail address of who is sharing.
It might work to put the e-mail name (before the @ part) in front of the folder name, so my files might appear as
jeff92677-Books instead of just Books
I checked in on your post on this subject... you are entirely correct. We were supposed to be able to create our own branded site... now, it's a mess... I can't roll this out...
