I have an iMac that is running two media servers (Twonky and Plex) I use Plex for my iDevices, and Twonky for my google tv. I run mkv video to my google tv because of the quality (6-8 gb files), then Plex runs an app on my iDevice so I can watch mkv files on my iDevice. Twonky gets choppy every 20-30 min. Plex doesn't, but it lowers the quality of the mkv to play on an iDevice, but also for my google tv. So that is why I have two.

My iMac has a 2tb external hard drive that runs time machine. So it's format is Mac OS Extended (Case-sensitive, Journaled)(not worried to much right now about losing time machine) but it shows in finder and I can change my video files, and move them around from finder. All my videos are on it already. It is user friendly.I went to Best Buy and this guy told me about pogoplug pro. I got it home, plug it all in. Time machine was gone from finder, I read forums and understand it is not compatible. But I lost being able to moves those files in finder. I set up the pogoplug on safari (since firefox v4 doesn’t work). It sees the hdd but it won’t let me show it the media that is on the hdd. I try and upload the media and all it shows is my iMac hdd. I gave up.

I want to cloud my media so I can be anywhere and get media on my iDevices. I don’t care is I lose a little quality online but not at home. I see that this POS won’t do that, transcode … BS BS. I have a hard enough time converting and all that other stuff. I want the quality of Twonky at home on google tv. But also want to be able to watch it on my iDevice without converting the mkv like Plex. I know you can port forward a router and make a cloud, but I tried that with no success. So pogoplug sounded nice but it is not liking my hdd or something. I’m so tired of trying to mess with it. Then I saw this and thought maybe it might work for me, so I want someone that knows what this is tell me what I maybe doing wrong or WFT IDK.

THANKS

Sorry if it doesn’t read well its late.

No one can answer me?

The issue here is that Pogoplug Video doesn't support MKV streaming, according to the official website. I am not certain if it can transcode MKV files, though--I'll see what I can find out.

@lan06STi, Peter is right. Pogoplug Video does not support mkv files.
With regard to the problems you were experiencing on your Pogoplug, you should submit a ticket at support.pogoplug.com, so that the support team can help you resolve your issue.

It's ludicrous that you don't support MKV. Not sure if you noticed but you're catering to people with large movie collections at home. You're touting support for HD video at home, and unfortunately that's NOT the AVCHD from Sony you've partnered up with.

I would take Ray from support's advice to convert my MKV's into something else but sadly my P: drive doesn't stay connected that long.

Isn't there a hardware transcoding chipset coming out on an updated pogoplug device?

When will that be available?

Currently, I can stream almost anything using a free server program called AirVideo and a $2.99 APP for an iPhone, iPad. I can even stream from the P drive on my LAN, and out to the internet through port forwarding to my MAC running the Airvideo server app. And it can transcode mp4, m4v, mov, avi, wmv, asf, mpg, mpeg, mkv, 3gp, dmf, divx, flv on the fly to the iPhone, AND you can have the videos converted and put in a folder of your choice, or into the source folder.

The VIDEO is that device. Just so happens that it was not made with MKV support in mind (for some logical reason)

The Pogoplug Video device appears to be a new product.

Compatible Media Formats: AVCHD, H.264, MPEG-4, MJPEG, MPEG-2, DivX™

MKV is not supported by Apple either. Not a big issue for me given all the formats that Pogoplug video does support.
